    question about donkey

while i was grooming my donkey yesterday i noticed he has 2 identical patches of short fur on his rump. he is getting his winter coat but those two spots are very thin and short. anything to be worried about?

Can you perhaps post pictures or explain it a little more? Are they discolored? Can you see skin? Where are they? What do they look like?

his fur is short where the pink spot is:

its on both sides of him. you know how a donkey looks in the summer with short fur? and in the winter they are furry? well those two spots are short like in the summer, and i am wondering if its flease or something.

can you not make it pink please?? That would help more.

I wouldnt be worried about it, unless you can see his skin, my horses get that all the time, it just takes more time to grow back.

Hmmm..it's probably just his coat growing in funny. It should be fine, as long as the skin/fur isn't discolored or swollen. Someone might have even shaved it for whatever reason, or rubbing against something, or whatever.

Have you wormed him? I would do that soon, I really doubt that its bot eggs but you should worm him anyways. Make sure you get something that kills bot eggs, they're quite formidable in the fall (at least with my horse). You can pick some wormer up at the feed store for about $10.

well you can't see it in the photo because thats when he had his summer coat and it wasn't on there.

EDIT** i will have to ask my dad to worm him. we haven't yet.

Yea, I used to help clean barns at my neighbors, and ride his race horses and Maddy the mom to almost all the horses, always pooped in one corner, and she taught all her babies to go in one corner too. She also never ever peed outside, becasue racetrack horses are trained not to pee outside, ( on the race track) so she never peed in the pasture either

    wow off track! haha

How are the "spots" doing? Getting any better? There are pages of things that it could be in my "Horse Owners Veterinary Handbook. If you want me to post them I can...

well, I am starting to think it just may be the way he gets his winter coat. I think if it doesn't go away in a couple weeks, I will tell you.

    ok, good luck!

*edit* just so you know...a lot of the reasons in the book are caused by worms so i would also suggest deworming if you haven't already!
