    dog memorial ideas ??

Figured more would see this here in this section .. My sister lost her husky the other night to liver cancer. She's very sad, understandably, and I'd like to get her some kind of memorial gift. She has lots of husky figurines around the house as well as plush ones, and most of what else I'm finding on the internet is junky. I know some of you have experienced the loss of a dog, such as I have, and my sister managed to find wonderful gifts for us when our two dogs passed away this past year, so .. if anyone has any ideas I would LOVE to hear it !! Thanks in advance!

Do you have any pictures of him? A scrapbook is always a good idea, even if it's a small one. You could have pictures from when he's a puppy up until his very last days. Good luck, and I'm sorry to hear about the loss.

That's a fabulous idea, but I only have 2 or 3 photos of Kayla.

She may not be ready yet......... but another husky puppy. Or if you think she is not ready a scrapbook is a good idea. Or maybe a framed picture of him that say "In Memory of NAME" or something.

I'm not sure if she's the type of person who loves art, but you could take one of the pictures to have it redone as a painting or something. There are lots of people who do that and then keep the original so it doesn't cost much, and then you either get a reprint or you can get it made into a blanket, coffee mug, etc.

About a week after I had my first dog put down, I went into work and found a card on my desk saying one of my co-workers had made a donation to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Peaches' name. I thought I was going to cry. I thought that was a great memorial. She may like something like that.

So sorry to hear about your sisters loss

    I'd suggest something like this...
    Furry Angel Pet Memorial Candle
When our Angus crossed over Amy (Cincy's Mom) sent me one.

What great ideas you have received so far.

I don't know if she's into helping stray animals but if she is you can check with your local humane society to see what options they have for memorials.

I know a few herre that offer different things, you can pay for a memorial brick, they will engrave names/sayings on it and they add it to their brick walkway to the enterence of the building. Another shelter has a memorial wall where you purchase a brick, they engrave it as well and it is added to the building.

Or you can sponsor a dog in memory of her.

Did she get her dog cremated? If so how about a nice ern or even a small gravestone if they burried her.
Soar high & free my sweet fur angels. I love you Nanook & Raustyk... forever & ever.

i think they all have great ideas. i lost my cocker, missy, in july, and i didnt get any gifts so i am not sure of any other ideas. i am deeply sorry for your sisters loss.

when she gets out of the major greif a puppy helps alot. i had molli when missy died and she helped me so much. and now that i have sammy, his little face reminds me of her every day. he is also a cocker.

I'm stealing an idea from Glacier . My daughter lost her big kitty (grandkitty) so I'm designing a stone like Glacier does for her porch. See any of her memorial threads.

These are the stones I've made:

A close up of Twicket's stone. That's the last one I made.

If your sister had her husky cremated, she may like a way to carry a small portion of his ashes with her. I wear a pendant with pawprints on it that has some of Hoodoo's ashes in it every day. There are a number of websites that sell them or you can usually find them on ebay too. I got mine from Best Friend Services.

    I'm sorry for her loss.

Did the dog have a favorite blanket your sister is willing to give up? You could sew it into a little dog stuffed animal. My aunt made bears out of my great-grandma's favorite shirts and I thought it was a great idea.

Thanks for all your replies and fabulous ideas !! I still haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. It's obvious that all of you care about your furkids and your friends' furkids that have gone to the RB. I should take some pictures of the gifts we received when 3 of our furkids made that RB journey this past year. It is always a rough time to go through.
