summer and cats with pink ears

Hi I have a cat called Jasper who is white with pink ears and as I live down in New Zealand summer is upon us. I noticed recently that Jasper's ears were getting red so I went to the vet and got some special creme to apply. As we all know cats can get cancer just as we can. So I thought I'de just put in a friendly reminder to others with cats with poor pigmentation to get some creme for their ears.
    cheers

I'm glad to hear that you noticed that Jasper's ears were getting burned and got him some cream. All of my cats are indoor only and I also have a faired skinned cat named Starr. He's mostly white now but is a Siamese Flame Point mix. I've also heard that cats with pink noses can get burned on their noses too so this may also be something for you to watch out for.

Same thing goes for dogs with pink noses, you should apply sunscreen to them during the summer to avoid sunburn! I have to do that with Jamie hehe.

yes sunscreen is a good idea for the kitties, you can buy special stuff just made for pets, hope you stay for a while, as I get kinda lonely sometimes ,but just have to tell you there are some great people here on PT from everywhere and you will love it here in no time.
