    Barnaby, our squirrel.

Yesterday a young gray squirrel started chewing on my cousins' shoes and riding on my grandma's shoes (they live at her house) and then when they went inside, he was gone and they were all crying. Today, at a party to celebrate Trey's (my 4 year old cousin) birth, because it was so complicated and he might not have lived or been ok, but now he is perfectly fine, Barnaby showed up again.
He is a baby Gray Squirrel. He is sooo tame, climbing all over everyone, we were going to take him to a wildlife center because we knew he would never survive that tame in the wild, but they were all closed. There was the party, so we could not set him down because he loves feet so much that he might accedentally get stepped on my guests. I was holding him and he tried to jump onto the tree and lost his grip and fell to the bricks and got a bloody nose! He ate crushed ice and slept and was better. My grandma and aunt supervised everyone with him and were very careful. They rehabilitated orphaned rabbits before when my aunt was growing up. He acted like a domestic rat. We spent the night feeding him gunea pig food (which he would not have) and crackers and sno-cone crushed ice from the rented machine and letting him sleep in a sling or cat crate. In the cage, when not eating or sleeping he is freaking out trying to get out, so we concluded the best way for him to spend the night is in his crate in the bushes next to the door with the crate door open. We think he will climb around the bushes but stay near because there are blankets and crackers and water in the crate. We are going to call this place called The Grove, which is a historic farm and prarie as well as a wildlife center. They have orphaned rabbits and a chicken who live together, as well as other rescued rodents, snakes, turtles, fish, and an owl. I am pretty sure they have dealt with squirrels before. People come in to visit for school trips or just on their own, so if Barnaby makes it we can visit him.

Poor Barnaby looks like an adult squirrel in miniature. He is so tame he acts like a rat, and when we set him down he always comes back. We know he will never make it by himself in the wild, so I am asking for prayers that he is ok tonight and makes it to live at The Grove.

Sorry, lots of cute pics, but they are on my grandma's camera (which is the same as mine, but one more megapixel) but I will take it home tomarow and get the pics off of it for everyone, he is adorable.

He keeps coming back! We also saw his brother who is bigger. He is having some trouble bouncing around like a squirrel should, having trouble clinging to whatever it is he has jumped to, which is how he fell and got a bloody nose in the first place. In my wildlife care bookit says they should not get wet and cold, but the night before last he was lost in a thunderstorm, which would explain why we found him in a shoe, and why he curled up in the blankets and sling so much. They are going to feed and watch him and I think he will end up living free in their yard. The cats will have to stay inside, even though they has the fence specially fixed so that declawed ( ) cats could not escape the yard. Seamus has a harness, but he gets really scared when wearing it.

how is his bloody nose now? I'd love if barnaby's few peek-a-boos soon!

when are you gonna take him to grove? sometimes it scares me when we find a tameee wild creature!

I really hope you would have urr visitation rights when you take him to a rescue... they wouldn't let me see squacky! not even a email picture.

anyway, barnaby, please keep me posted!

Every night his mom and brother come to take him home to his nest in a big tree next door, then in the morning he comes back. He's a runt and so we feed him all the stuff it said to in my wildlife rehabilitation book. My aunt called another rescue closer to their house and I have not heard from her yet about wheather or not he's going.

    He sounds cute!

I hope he is able to make it on his own. But if not it sounds like the grove will be good for him.
