    Zoo pictures.

Between the two of us, Danni and I, we took over 200 pics! Of course a lot of them were of the same creatures so I was able to edit down to - 82! All of which are on imagestation -
    http://www.imagestation.com/album/in...?id=2122658485 .
Those were then edited yet again down to 41, cropped and then loaded onto photobucket -
    http://photobucket.com/albums/v11/Cw...%20zoo%202005/
These are taken from that PB album (not all 41! )

I love these creatures (Meercats). That's a baby sitting on top of the 'mountain'.

    Lookouts.

I've waited 3 years to see this black jaguar (every other visit she has been hiding away), she even came right up to the glass this time. I was so happy! Couldn't get a good picture of her though, people in the way and she moves so fast.

First time for us to go in this place

It was great! Couldn't use a flash, obviously, so this is the only faintly recognisable bat pic.

This Grey Crane was really taken with us. It came up to the fence and put its beak through and kind of talked to us. We moved away and it followed. We stopped, it stopped. A couple of people joined us so we moved away, so did the crane! Same thing happened again, a couple more people, we moved away it followed right the way to the end of the enclosure. I really didn't want to go, I wanted to take him/her home with me.

The Green Mamba didn't look friendly, glad he was behind the glass.

All you could see of this creature was one eye. You can't really tell by the picture but it was very strange.

    No creatures this time.

This was a really cool water feature, this photo really doesn't do it justice.

And if you need to know the way home, and how far you have to go to get there, just consult this signpost.

    That's all!

Looks like a big Zoo. The animal pics are wonderful. I liked
seeing the elephants, but it always makes me a little sad to
see them out of their element. Who does the figure represent
    in the water fountain?

Wonderful pics! I love going to the zoo!

Although I love elephants, this pic makes me sad. Our zoo's 5 day old baby elephant recently drowned in the pool. Poor thing I felt awful.

    Your pics are great though!

Liz, it does me too. But I guess the world the way it is means there is going to be a need for zoos such as these for a long time yet.
And this particular one, Chester Zoo, does keep to its welcome statement exceedingly well.
    Our Mission
The role of the Zoo is to support and promote conservation by breeding threatened species, by excellent animal welfare, high quality public service, recreation, education and science.

Who does the water feature represent? I don't know. It wasn't there last year and I just thought it was so good but didn't think to check.

Carly, that is so awful. I love elephants too, they are in the top three of my favourite creatures list.
Chester zoo does a terrific conservation work with the Asian elephant, both at the zoo and in the outreach programme. At the moment they are extending and improving their enclosure at the zoo too.

Here is a link to the elephant info on their web site if you are interested http://www.chesterzoo.org/newsitem.asp?ID=165 There are also lots of links to interesting info about the zoo and its creatures in general.

p.s. forgot to say, the zoo also have wedding facillities available and we saw a bride and groom in full regalia having their photo taken while we were there. It was so nice.

I love zoos! Great pictures, it sounds like you had a fun time.

I had an experence similar to what you had with the crane with a wolf at a place up in Washington state. He just wouldn't let me leave lol. My husband does that with geraffes (sp?) of all critters.

Great pictures Chris, and thanks for the links.

Can we go there next year with Danni??? Please?? Pretty please??
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!
