    Remodel Question . . .

Has anyone ever installed wood laminate floor before? The floating floor that just locks together?

We're trying to decide if we'd rather install flooring ourselves or hire someone.

I've heard it's the easiest project for a homeowner . . . I'm just wanting confirmation that SOMEBODY agrees!

My son just did his whole house. He said it was really easy to do and looks great! Good luck!

My co-worker's hubby did it himself and with very little problems. I was watching a program on HGTV where they ran into some problems but all worked out well in the end. I wish you lots of luck with your project. Sounds exciting!!!

(P.S. "Easy" is a relative word! LOL!

    I'd hire someone.

It's not easy if you have no idea what you are doing.
Just want to save you a nightmare. My in-laws tried doing it themselves and ended up killing themselves physically, the floors look like crap, and they hired someone in the end to do it.

On the other hand, if you have a little experience, do it yourself.

I'll let you know next week, because that's when we will be doing it. We bought the laminate tile and I'm hoping it will be easy!! My brother did his whole basement, and said it was really easy, and their floor looks gorgeous.

It all depends on how much experience you have with do-it-yourself jobs! My son too says it is easy, but also that you at least have to know "something" about it. I would hire someone for sure, it is n't worth the risk!

I'd be afraid to attempt doing it myself, even though I've seen tons of shows on how to do it. If you do it yourself, make sure you open the boxes and let the wood set in your house for a few days before placing it. I also know you're supposed to use the wood from all the different boxes because otherwise you might have patches of all the same colored wood instead it being mixed up. Make sense? I can't remember if the floating floor needs a vapor barrier or not. I, personally, would hire someone to do it. I think you'd save money in the long run.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
    I miss you

My husband installed ours, but then he is very much a handy man, a mechanical engineer by trade and has built a three storied design house, so really it was a simple task for him, it takes a bit of time and patience if you want it just right, but for most it is quite an easy task.

I assume you mean this kind of floor that my Ash boy is sitting on on the pic,.must say my kitties have scratched it alot though.
    Furangels only lent.

I'm going to be doing 2 floors with laminate this summer, (if I ever get a day off), from everyone I've spoken with about the flooring they say to follow the manufacturer's directions (tough task for some of us....read directions? What are directions?) and it will go easily.

I installed on room of the flooring a few years ago and it wasnt that hard of a job, It just takes a little while to do it.
I would do it again, I think it was worth the money I saved.
