Happy 7th Birthday Kia!

Dearest Kia,
I can't believe that it's been 4 years since I walked into that shelter. It was June 27th, if I recall correctly. All the other dogs were jumping up and down. They wanted to play but you, you just sat in the corner of your kennel and stared at me.
How were you so certain that I'd choose you? I smiled at you and you wagged your tail.
I asked to see you and so they put us in a small room together. You shyly put your head in my lap and then laid down and showed your belly.
I was hooked.
I said I wanted to adopt you and we filled out the necessary paperwork. However, I couldn't bring you home until June 29th. They had to run a background check and call the apartment complex. I hope you didn't think we decided not to get you.
I went online and saw your picture there....
I could barely work. All I could do was stare at your picture.
Then, June 29th came and we were approved to get you.
I had always wanted a dog, but I had no idea how you'd steal my heart.
I almost lost you, but you have a fighting spirit, and I'm thankful to still have you in my life.
I love you lots, Kia.
