Two years ago today a purring ball of white and peach fluff joined our family. Never mind that he was already 13. 5 years old at the time--he was still a purring fluffball!
Twicket was abandoned at the shelter when his family suddenly developed allergies to him heavy on the sarcasm I think they just didn't want to bother with an old cat anymore. They obviously cared about him at one time. When he was 8 years old, Twicket had a PU surgery. Getting that procedure up here is difficult and expensive--not something I would expect you would do for a cat you didn't give a hoot about. Twicket was dumped in January 2003. I thought he was wonderful right from the start, but figured someone else would see how cool he was and adopt him. I already had a houseful of critters. The shelter is a no-kill so I wasn't worried about him. I dropped by to visit him often.
Then it appeared the Board of Directors was going a little nutty. A nice little dog was euthanized for no real reason. The old manager thought that Twicket was next on their list as he had been there for six months and was elderly. That night I came home in tears and told my husband about Twicket. He told me to "go get him then." I called the shelter immediately..
Twicket was personally delivered to my door by the manager later that evening. According to the shelter records, he just disappeared. The Board has since been replaced and now my hubby is the manager!
He's my silly kitty love. He's over 15 now and still doing quite well. His last blood panel was normal. He loves his squishy food and his honeysuckle toys. I think he's going a bit blind and a wee bit senile, but he still gets around just fine.
He's a purring machine and is happiest when he's being held. He purrs pretty much constantly and puts his whole body into it. My husband often says that when the time comes, Twicket will pass away from purring too hard--not a bad way to go, if he has to leave.
Take a few minutes ago--his favorite sleeping spot, in the back of my closet in the sock bucket. He won't come out to pose for a nicer pic!
