    Animal lisensing

What do you guys think about lisensing your dogs?

On one hand, it's good because it helps find your dog if it's lost, and the city knows approximatley how many dogs are in the area and they can provide parks and whatnot according to the amount of dogs. You also get fined if they find that you don't have a lisense.

But then, the city knows exactly what breed your dog is. They could seriously make your life Hell if you own a "dangerous" breed. They know exactly how many dogs you own, which can be a bad thing (in my city, you are only allowed to have two dogs unless you live on an acerage -- even if it's two chihuahuas).

    What do you think?

I was just thinking that after reading about denver, if I ever got a pit bull I wouldn't license it.
don't breed or buy while shelter dogs die....

We have licensing here. We're SUPPOSED to renew them every year. Its about $7 or $8. I always forget, until Novemebr or so, then I say "ah phooey, I'll wait til January" and then forget til next November.

Occasionally the police TRY to crack down on dogs without a license, but with the gangs and such around here, its waaaaayyyy on the back burner.

AH HA! I was wondering how the Denver animal control knew about so many pit bulls! They must have been licensed huh? Sometimes I'm slow. After what has happened in Denver I dont think I will license Jada period.....

I would license them since it's the law. In my hometown, if you get caught with an unlicensed dog, it is a $500 fine. At the local county parks, the rangers do random dog checks and at the state parks, you can't even enter without proof of rabies and a license. However, my town does not have laws against owning any particular type of dog. The only law is that "pit bull" breeders are not allowed within city limits. So all pit bulls registered in the city of Syracuse MUST be neutered or spayed.

It is also law in NZ to licence your dog, of course many do not, but they can be picked up by the dog pound, and sadly will be PTS if their owners do not claim them, I think it is a good idea to licence your dogs.

lol Ripley and perky are shelter dogs so they are licensed but they have never actually been renewed, so I have 5 dogs but none of them have a valid licence lol my mom said we would never licence more then 2-3 of our dogs at a time anyway in case a limit was ever introduced lol the licence is how they keep track, but I will NOT let them know how many I have, that way that cannot be taken away lol I think they are really pretty usless if you dog is lost that is what ID tags and Tatoos are for, nobody even looks at the licence they look for tatoos and id tags, so I think a licence is pointless and just put you at risk if a ban or limit is ever put into place. it is the law here but if you dog is picked up and not licenced you only get a $20 doller fine and you are handed a $10 licence lol

This was in the NYS Dept of Agriculture's website:

Any dog control officer or peace officer, acting pursuant
to his special duties, or police officer in the employ of or under
contract to a municipality shall seize:
    (a) any dog which is not identified and which is not on the owner`s premises; and
    (b) any dog which is not licensed, whether on or off the owner`s premises

So I guess you can lose your dog either by having too many or by having unlicensed ones. I have never seen a law in MY state limiting the number of dogs you are allowed. Not saying it doesn't exist but I have never heard of it before in my area. So I would rather be safe than sorry and just license them...

Here is the link to the website, lots of info on licenses there!

I've never had my dogs licensed and now that Texas, particularly Houston is under a dangerous dog/BSL threat, they sure as heck won't be licensed. It's not like AC goes around knocking on doors asking to see the dogs' licenses and IF they ever got out and picked up by AC, I would just deal with the fine. What good is a license anyway besides more revenue for the county/city and a pain in the butt? It may be the law, but so is BSL and I'm not about to put my dogs in jeopardy for either. I'll start obeying this law when real criminals start obeying any laws.

not one of my dogs is lisenced.

we have had alot of problems with the pound in the past.
they dont like huskies, akitas, pitties, rotties, mastiffs, or bullies.
    I dont know why.

so i wont lisence my dogs till i am out of this town.

I have always lisenced my dogs.
But because of all these dangerous breed bans
    popping up,
if I ever get another Akita, I would probaby register her
as a Husky or Elkhound mix to be on the safe side.

Mine are licensed since they do checks at our dog park which we frequent. I think its mostly a good program. We do have a four dog limit here. If I had a pittie or other stigmatized breed I'd lie and say it was some sort of mix.
