    Flying

I'm going to Vegas next Thursday and of course since I live in Texas, I have to fly.

Trouble is flying scares me to death. The last time I flew to Vegas, the take-offs and landings almost made me cry. Mature, I know.

Does anyone have any tips on how to make the flight less scary?

    1. Close your eyes and pretend you are on a roller coaster.

    2. Pretend there is a string attached to the plane, to help it go up and down.

    3. Have a few drinks and distract yourself during the take offs and landing.

    4. Think of all the money you are going to win, then hire a limo to go home!

    5. You are going to Vegas and are worried about the plane???

I was petrified the first time I ever got on a plane (I was 19). But once I got in the air and made myself look out the windows, I was in awe. It was so pretty!! Since then, I've flown alone to Montreal and also all the way across the Atlantic to Scotland (via Amsterdam). It's not so bad... just keep your mind off of it. Even though I'd flown by the time I went to Scotland, I was still very nervous about being in a plane in the air that long, over that much ocean, but I watched the movie and listened to music and slept... and I was fine.

Oh, and there's nothing childish about crying. I do it all the time in situations I cannot control and am scared of, so I completely get why you cry. You just have to realize that you can't control everything in life and that you'll be fine. I can't imagine Texas to Nevada taking a long time...

I HATE flying too! What I found is if I just sit there and think about the flight and all the noises the stupid plane is making, I freak out. Instead I sit there and interact with my fellow passengers. I try to keep my mind on the conversations. I try to smile, laugh and joke around with them. I pretend I'm on a bus or a train. I also don't look out the window because then I remember I'm on a stinking plane. If you're going with someone, just talk about Vegas and what you're going to do as soon as you get to the hotel. Bring Vegas brochures on the plane and talk about the trip. Above all, just think "fun"!!!

    Good luck!!!!

I just heard on the radio the other day that flying is safer than ever. Even though I have flown over one million miles I still don't like takeoff and landing....but it beats the alternative.

I read...and pay no attention to what is happening beneath me....

I hate flying as well! I am driving to Atlantic City, NJ, because I was too scared to get on a plane. I have no advice for you. I am also going to a casino there. Wish you all the best with your winnings and flight.

What?!?! You don't like take-off and landing? Those are the BEST, and only fun parts of flying. Nothing like that tingling feeling in the stomach, and the first view of the entire world beneath you right before take off. Landing is SO exciting when you're landing in another country. Its so much fun to look out the window, and think, "WOW....I'm so far from home..." The rest of the flight is very boring though...especially the flight to London. 10-11 hours of sitting in an airplane...boring. He he he. I love take off and landing though...love it....even though I really dislike air-travel otherwise.

    I love flting!
I just flew to Vegas last weekend to see my husband!

I don't know how long of a flight it will be for you, but mine was 4 1/2 hours!! I slept the entire time, there and back!!

I love flying at night and seeing all of the lights in the cities that you depart from and arrive in.

    Just relax and have fun!!

Take a Gravol about 1/2 hour before the flight. You'll sleep the whole way...but then again you might feel groggy for the rest of the day. There's no easy answer. I love flying and I wish I had more money for travel.

I would if there was a Pet Talk meeting....

Sorry, don't mean to make a joke of it. It's serious business. Many people are so afraid of flying that they'd rather spend days on a train than go up in the air. Are you flying alone? Also, I think there is no shame in mentioning this to the flight attendants. I'm sure they've seen and heard it all before. Good luck and have fun in Vegas.

Enclosed please find one Canadian Toonie for the slots.

I get seriously motion sick so I take a Gravol before flying or any other sort of travel. I'm not sure if you have it in the States.

When people said they were scared of flying or got airsick, I honestly could not believe it, I have flown to the US and Australia, no problem at all, but then I flew on a smaller friendship plane here in NZ from my city to Wellington about a 20 min plane ride, it was the worst I have ever experienced, the longest 20 mins of my life, I was petrified the whole journey, I had to appear brave as I had my then 8 year old son with me on his first flight.

There was quite a bit of turbulance, and the whole flight was ghastly, I have not flown since, and to be frank the thought of flying absolutely terrifies me now, so you have my utmost empathy, I have no suggestions, but others have given you some that will hopefully help, I hope the flight goes well and your fear is unfounded, good luck.
