    Body in NC morgue alive!

    http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/news/biz...APsn_dead.html

Man declared dead found to be breathing in body bag at morgue

(01/26/05 - LOUISBURG, NC) — A 29-year-old man is alive, even though paramedics declared him dead at the scene of an automobile accident, zipped him up into a body bag and sent him to the morgue.

State highway patrol officials told ABC News affiliate WTVD-TV in Durham that Larry Green, of Louisburg, was hit by a car at around 9 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Highway 401 and Highway 39 in Franklin County.

Paramedics pronounced Green dead and a trooper called his family to break the news. Medics put Green in a body bag and took him to the county morgue, which is located at the jail in Louisburg.

Nearly two hours after the accident, Trooper T.L. Hunt went into the morgue and met with the county coroner, J.B. Perdue, but when the two unzipped the body bag to document the man's injuries, they got a big surprise -- Green was breathing, though just barely.

"I had to look twice myself just to make sure it was there, that's how subtle it was," Perdue told the Raleigh News Observer.

A trooper raced back to the family's house to tell grieving relatives that Green was alive.

He was in critical condition Tuesday night at Duke University Medical Center in Durham. The family told WTVD-TV that Green was on a ventilator.

The Franklin County manager told WTVD he is conducting an investigation into the mistake, and Franklin County attorney Darnell Batton said the county's medical director has suspended those who were involved in the incident.

The county attorney's office is investigating how the mistake was made.

    Ugh!!!!!

    That would be horrifying.

It happened once on one of the CSI's--the Medical Examiner heard them knocking from inside the drawer!!!!

I hope he makes it--his poor family went from grieving to being excited that he was alive--I hope it can stay that way.

Thats quite incompetent to say the least! Poor guy...good thing they didn't stick him in the freezer next. Smells like another lawsuit brewing in the future.

That is unbelievable that a paramedic could make a mistake like that. That's two hours of very valuable time that's lost. It's terrible, but it would be wonderful if he makes it.

I live in North Carolina, so thats been the talk of the news here...
I heard that he WAS being kept inside the freezer at the morgue, so that they could examine him. I am just glad they didnt go ahead and embalm him, seeing as there is a chance he will live. He is still in critical condition. I pray that he makes it out ok, his poor parents must have been devasted. I think that he was DOA, but then his heart started back. I dont think they would pronounce him dead unless they were sure, but then again, we are talking about slack butt police here in North Carolina, so who knows?

    Thank you so much Michelle!
