I recently adopted this dog from a local humane society. The tag on his cage said that he was a basset mix. My best guess is a basset and dachshund mix. I just wanted to know what everyone else thought. All replies will be greatly appreciated.

He looks like a basset/dachshund or beagle/dachshund to me.

he certainly looks more like a dachshund than a basset and probably mix with a beagle. a handsome chap![]()

No doubt dachshund....most likely beagle..dont see basset
Although his coloring is differnt, his expression and facial features are much likemy BIL's Doxie-beagle mix, so i agree with the others...
Heis very cute!! Please tell us more![]()
I see dachshund and basset. He is a handsome boy!
I named him "Sir Frederick Von Flopalotamus". Fred and Freddy for short. I was searching through Dogster for different combinations of breeds and the only dachshund/beagle mixes were all small(11-25 lbs). Fred is a hefty 42 lbs and skinny. When I took him to the vet for his first checkup and neutering, I found out that he had whipworms and hookworms. I'm thinking that was a major contribution to his "skinniness" He has thickened out a little after being home for a week, but I don't know his exact weight. He does have the basset dewlap and droopy eyes, with brown inner eyelids. It really doesn't matter what he is. He loves asolutely everyone and is completely housetrained. I still can't figure out why he was taken to the humane society in the first place. He has made me and my boyfriend extremely happy.
Here is his dogster page:

My BIL's dog is a little closer to Freddy's size...he is about 30-35 lbs.Originally posted by jessiekay115

I'd say he;s probably Dachshund/beagle mix. He could be basset instead of beagle but I think he looks alot more bagle than Bassetoh and you said he's 42lbs, he's probably a standard Dachshund/beagle. The ones you saw on Dogster were probably miniatures

I came to the conclusion that Sir Fred is my medium combo with fries and a side of slobber.
