    Happy Gotcha Day Heyoka!

    Today marks the 2nd anniversary of the gentle giant's arrival at our home.

    Heyoka was found as a "dog at large". He was held for three weeks at the local Animal Control pound. He should have been euthanized after three days, but the AC officer just couldn't do it. We are eternally grateful for his soft heart!


    We originally hoped he would run in harness beside Kayleigh, but he does not want to be a sled dog. He is Kayleigh's best friend though. She's normally dog aggressive, but she took on look at Heyoka and immediately play bowed. This pic was taken a few hours after they first met.


    Heyoka means "clown who teaches through his antics" in Cree. It fits him perfectly. He is a clown!

    PS:

    On the same day that Heyoka arrived, so did little Felicia.

    At the time she was a tiny seven week old kitten. She fit in the palm of my hand. So I got my biggest critter--130 pound Heyoka and my littlest (even now Felicia only weighs 5 pounds) on the same day!

    When I saw the last picture of Heyoka, I found myself wrapping my arms around the computer screen and kissing it! So, could you please plant a wet one on his nose for me?!?

    Happy gotcha day, Heyoka and Felicia! What beautiful pets! Heyoka looks like a joyful spirit- I like the explanation of his name, too. Is he a Malmute? (hope I spelled it right)

    He is a Malamute. He's over size for the breed standard, but I have a good idea of who bred him and I know he was breeding for size only. He'd be classed as a Giant Malamute, but although some breeders aim for size, the giants aren't recognized and can't be shown.
