I guess I've seen "it all" in rescue now??? :o(

Well the pregnant kitty that I was fostering for MULTICATMOM aborted her babies. I found seven tiny embryos in her litter pan. They were no where near being developed yet, so I guess it is for "the best".

This was one thing I hadn't had to go through so far with rescue work .... I hope I've seen the worse now!!!!?

Oh Kim, how awful for you, but like you said, maybe it was for the best.
Personally, I have never heard or experienced anything like this before. I have witnessed a few puppies and kitties that were stillborn, but never aborted.

    How is the mama doing?

I'm so sorry you had to go through this, it must have been so heartbreaking for you and I hope and pray that you never have to witness anything like this again.

    Hugs to you sweetie.

Oh Kim, as with other things in life, just when you think you've seen it all, something else comes along to surprise you. I'm so sorry you had to go through this. Hugs to you Kim.

Forgive me for asking a really dumb question but I know nothing about these things.

Can a Momma cat choose to abort her kittens or would this be a case of a "miscarriage"???

Oh wow!! I hadn't ever thought of that happening but I would imagine it is a miscarriage. How sad.

    Sorry you had to deal with that too Kim. {{HUGS}}

That is a very sad event I would say it was miscarriage and my first worry would be disease (has she been blood tested?) of course my second thought would be 7?!? maybe it was just too many, is she young?

I am so sorry that you had to go through this, but at the same time I am glad that a caring human is with her at this time.

I'm sorry you had to go through this - and poor momma cat! Perhaps it was for the best, the kittens may not have survived anyway. Hope momma cat is OK!

Poor Mama cat! I have never heard of that either but I agree with everyone, that it was probably for the best. She should definately be fixed now so this won't happen again..

Oh yes .... MULTICATMOM just needed me to take her because she would have a difficult time caring for the tiny ones. She will be going to be spayed soon, and most probably will have a forever home with MCM! By the way, this kitty's name is Daisy ... she is a bobtail and seems to be feeling fine.

    Kim,

I'm sorry you had to go through that. I had trapped a pregnant cat once. I put her in my friend's basement with a cover over the trap to calm her down till morning when I could get her to the vet. The same thing happened, they weren't quite full-term. She had all of them in the trap sometime during the night. The vet told me that happens when a cat is severely stressed out.

Like you said, I guess it was meant to be.

    ((((hugs))))

Sometimes kitties who've had many litters, will birth unformed kittens. I had a gorgeous white english or british shorthair white cat I rescued years back. Mama delivered I forget how many kittens now, but all were stillborn. One I thought was afterbirth and found out it was a kitten, but without developed skeletal structure, and another was hairless. What a sad thing to witness, but the cat got up after it all and acted like she'd had so many litters and lost them, she could care less about another litter. She was tested etc. and got a wonderful home. It's sad to go through, but maybe meant to be.

Gosh...I'm sorry Kim. I've never heard of that happening either.

I want to ask my vet about that tomorrow to see how common it is. I guess it should be, it happens with people all the time too.
