I am pretty sure Connor is.....

An Anatolian Shepherd. (Aly - I asked my vet and she said he looked like some sort of Shepherd. I asked her about an Anatolian and she said she does see alot of it in him.) He has the same coat type, same mask on the face, same head shape and there tails look alike!

    What do you think??

    Here some more Connor pics

It's a possibility that he has some Anatolian Shepherd... but it's still hard to tell with puppies. I'd wait until he's full grown to try to figure out what breed he is. He's a cutie though!!! I LOVE his ears and that sweet face!!

Anatolian Shepherds are a pretty rare breed. I don't think it's very likely that he is a purebred one, though I guess it's possible. He's adorable!

Thanx! I also don't think he is pur-bred. Mostly because he is sooo much smaller then they would be at this age.

The thing with mixed breeds is that they can look one certain way and be sometimg totally opposite. People can give educated guesses, but really no one can ever know for sure. If we only knew how often we are wrong on guessing breeds, I'm sure we'd all be surprised!

So, maybe I missed something, but, are you sticking with Connor as his name? He's beautiful!

LOL, I'll second that!!! LOL. I just like to have something to say when people ask me what breed he is

Guster Girl - Not sure yet, I'll make a thread when I deced what he will be forever. I love the name Jupiter, but I also like Connor.

    Hmm...

He really is a sweet looking pup. Good luck on deciding his name. Jupiter is cute but I always thought one or two syllable names were easier for a dog to pick up on. Course you could shorten to call him Jupi or Jupe or something too Then again you talked about how smart he is too so maybe he'd do just fine with three syllables.

Ah, I see. Jupiter is really cool. The reason I asked is because you didn't put Connor in quotations. And, you had before when you were talking about changing his name....I was confused! i think either name is nice.

    Thanks, Dogz!

I know It's always fun trying to guess what breed your dog is..(I used to have an Aussie/BC/something else mutt) I was just saying it might be easier when they're older.. I've seen pups that look like one breed as puppies but look completely different as full grown adults.. You never know... but it's fun trying to guess.

Although both are great dogs & very handsome, just I personally doubt he is a pure breed or even a mix. Just Anatolians are a pretty rare breed. Also the curl in the tail & the way the ears droop are specific characteristics in the Anatolians. They are also quite leggy.

    I still opt for shep/chow.
He is one handsome pup though.
Soar high & free my sweet fur angels. I love you Nanook & Raustyk... forever & ever.

Anatolian's are also FIERCELY protective...they are used in Africa now to protect animals from hunting cats. Is your dog protective?

Connor has a curl in his tail, a weird curl, but a curl. Ok like if He was mixed with (for instance) a Lab and Anatolian, he could have Lab ears, and Anatolian face. While the Lab's straight tail is what is holding Connor's tail from not going as curly as the Anatolians. Also, since the Lab is a smaller breed he probly would not grow to the full height or Weight of an Anatolian, which would be why he isn't leggy. My mom had a German Shepherd Great Dane Mix, who only grew to be the hieght of a German Shepherd and looked NOTHING like a Great Dane but in the ears and nose. (Bought it from someone who had "accidentle" litter)

bizdevguy - No, but he is a puppy and was very well socialized. There are many fiercly protective breeds who can be as sweet as can be if well socialized and not trained.

All I'm saying is I think he has some in him. My sister's old neighbor had 3 large dogs who looked like Anatolians, I'm not sure if they were because we never got close to them, but they look like it (Black muzzle and ears, large, looked to have a medium length coat) I dunno, for now this is what I am going to say he is mixed with. He looks like it, alot. I don't really see German Seperd in him but I agree with my vet, I see SOME sort of Shepherd and he looks the most like a Anatolian. He may not be, we will see as he gets older. Just right now, I see alot of it in him and it is my bext educated guess to say that he is part Anatolian.
