    Goat Info

Hi everyone i am getting 2 pygmy goats in the spring and i was wondering if anyone had some good advice on how to take care of goats. Also if you have any goat names that you like please include that too! I will take everything that everyone says into consideration! Thanks everyone!

I don't know anything about goats. I do know a lot about sheep though. I do know though, that pigmy goats LOVE alfalfa. So BE SURE to get them some of that. They need something to keep them entertained so, make them some steps to run up and down on. Tie a sugar cube or 4 to a string up high where they can jump for it. Maybe even make them a little maze to get to their alfalfa. I would like that if I was a goat. Just imagine yourself as a goat. Think of things that you would like.
I will be back. I am going to go find you some websites on pigmy goats.

I have 3 goats and they are a handfull at times but still worth it. One think you should remember Goats will eat forever, so don't let them fool you into thinking they are still hunger. They could eat you out of house and home if you not carefull.

Just make sure you have a salt block for them, lots of room to eat all the grass they want, some feed, lots of water and some place they can rub thier horns.

Expect a lot of noise when they want something and get use to the smell. Goats hate water so baths are not a easy thing to do.
They also have a bad habit of peeing on them selfs so that doesn't help the smell any.

Now this might sound like a odd thing to say, but don't let them get to attached to you. I had to bottle feed on of mine after his mother passed and he is so attached to me he cries for me and as soon as he see me he is all over me and I end up getting remed by a horn. Goats can be great pets but when they bond to a person it 10 times more then the average pet. At least thats how it works with my guys.

    Two of my guys......

No No, never let your dogs play with the goats, it's in most dogs natural instince to kill a goat and it's a chance not worth taking.
I do have one dog that is good with my goats but even with that I still don't trust him.

Not all dogs will try to hurt your goats but honestly it not worth the risk to find out.

Oh I forgot something don't forget to worm them every once in awhile. At least twice a year.

And again don't forget they will eat anything, even the side of your house if they can, so if you have any plants you want to keep in one piece, keep the goats away.

Also if you have anything high they can climb on they love that, they play king of the hill. Our have a Little tikes climping toy that they just love to play on.

As teats they love around the yard, we give them suger cane stocks and when we trim our oak tree they love it, we give they the branches with leaves. They go crazy over the oak leaves.
