information on dachshunds

I would like some solid info on the dachshund. I have searched the net but my question is : are there two different breeds? the
(sounds like) dash-hound and (sounds like) docks-hund? I think that there is only one breed and people pronounce it differently but some people are saying that they are two different dogs. As well, I am confused about the size. My dog is seems to be kinda small compared to other dogs I have seen. Is there really such a thing as a minature? and if so, is this a different breed or just a variation on the breed? I hope there is someone out there who knows about all this. My "Peti" is 4months. He is black and tan and about 10lbs., but looks kinda small. We want to breed him in the future, but I need to know what to look for to make sure we are doing this right.

There is only one breed - people just pronounce the name differently. It's supposed to sound like "dox-hund" it translates to "badger hunter" which is what they were originally bred to do.

There are three types of dachshunds: smooth coat, wire-haired, & long-haired. Withing those types there are two sizes: standard & mini. There are several different color combinations in each.

I have two smooth coat black and tan standard doxies, Max (8+ yrs.) and Muffin (6 mos.).

Thanks for replying. As I said, Peti is 4 months and we have had him since 6 weeks. This is my first time at dachshunds. I have a 10 yr. old Yorkie that has decided to move in with my parents when I got Peti. He is not happy with the new pup at all!
Doxies are very different than what I am used to. We only got him because my brother in law has a red female and we decided to get a black and tan male so they could mate. His female is a nice dog so I decided to go along with the idea. I have really enjoyed my Peti!! He is all hound dog. Not like the Yorkie at all!
But, I love them both! I can't believe the difference. I thought Yorkies were hyper! Not at all compared to doxies.
Well, enough of this, I will try to post some pics of the two plus my four cats when I figure out how to do it.
