my little 5 month old kitten has been scratching the floor (where his bowl of food and water is) mysteriously as if he is in his litter box! does anyone knows why?![]()

Hehe: for me this is the proof that cats can master metaphoric language. Tigris does it and it means: this food tastes like sh.......![]()

I don't know WHY, but some of mine will do that when they are finished. I guess they want to "cover it up" and save it for later.
.
My Andy occasionally does that. He is my super neat little guy. Sometimes if Trevor brings up a hairball Andy will run over and try to cover it, even though it's on the carpet.![]()
Tilly scratches everything. She scratches by the food dishes, the water dishes, any bed she is about the lay on, and sometimes just the floor. She also tries to cover her throw-up if she's had a hairball. She was a stray before I got her, so maybe it was something she did in the wild to cover her scent and hide her food.. who knows! Whenever I see her do it though I freak because I'm afraid that either she has been sick, one of the other two have been sick, or someone has bathroomed inappropriatley!![]()
Bastet does that ... She is hiding the scent of herself and her food. I asked the vet why? because being my very first kitty I didn't know. Its a natural wild cat behaviour.
"A cat cannot see directly under its nose. This is why the cat cannot seem to find tidbits on the floor."
i freak out abit cuz Belang might be "seeing" things that us humans cannot see! like the time he stared at the full moon and mewwwwed so loudly and at such length!
I know bastet sees things that we don't see. She is a cat. that is why the Egyptians worshiped them. But as for the scratching - that is totally and utterly normal for cats. All cats do it.
Usually if a cat sees something that is threatening to their owner they hiss and spit. Bastet has done that on many occasions when she hasn't liked a person. I trust her instincts on that.
