I'm not much help with the skin problem, but I do hope Alfred will be better soon. Sounds like you are taking good care of him!!

What a darling boy he is. Bulldogs are my "dream dogs" and we rarely see any here on Pet Talk!!!! So welcome to Pet Talk, Pierre, and come back often!

Before this problem occured did you clean the wrinkles frequently? If not than that may be the cause. Even though you are feeding a good quality food your dog may still have a reaction to it. I beleive Hills is not all that great (if I remember correctly) I think it contains quite a bit of corn products? Also plastic feeding dishes are known to cause skin irritations (red, raw, pimples etc..) around the mouth area. If he is eating out of plastic I would switch to stainless steel. He is a cutie! Good luck!

Yes, I would be very careful about cleaning his wrinkles, maybe make a habit of it every day after he eats his dinner, as bulldogs often have that problem, and the flat face, along with those deep wrinkles, means stuff, as well as sweat, can tend to get in there. Making cleaning his wrinkles part of his routine, and making a big fuss over him as you clean (bulldogs being absolute suckers for attention, I know!) may help clear this up and [revent problems in the future. Stainless or ceramic dishes may help, too.

It usually takes a while for the antibiotics to take effect and for the infection to begin healing. Keep up with the medication, the cleansing and the other excellent suggestions mentioned here. Sadly, this is a condition my "Bulldog family" friends tell me their pups are prone to. With time, the advice of your vet and your excellent care, I believe you can keep this condition under control. Your Alfred is a sweetie!! Hugs to him from us here. And please let us know how he's doing!!

I am probably a bit late with this, but our Bulldog Goliath has had similar problems. What works for us is the peroxide treatment, but also using diaper rash ointment such as Desitin once every few days. Just use a tiny bit and unscented is a good way to go.

    Good Luck!

I will always strive to the be the person my Bulldog thinks I am.
