    Pit Bulls

    I just had to share...

My husband and I went to visit some relatives last week and got to meet the newest doggy addition to their family...a five month old Pit Bull named Bow. He was found wandering around their neighborhood at about 10 weeks old. They didn't plan on keeping him, but because of his breed, didn't want anything bad to happen to him.

Anyway...on our last night there, I was laying on the couch, wrapped up in a blanket when I felt a cold nose on my feet. Sweet Bow was cold and decided I was who he wanted to get warm with. He made his way along my body until we were cuddling. He'd turn his head every few minutes for some kisses and would then take a short nap. We laid there for at least an hour. I was warmed that this dog was so totally loving to me.

    Just wanted to share.
    ...RIP, our sweet Gini...

Wow, what a great story! I think that some people with very different perspectives on pitbulls could benefit from reading something like that!

Great story - but I'm not surprised! The pit bull LOVES people. Lucky you you got to cuddle with this sweet little piggy. I wish everyone knew the love of a pit bull.

this morning I was awakened by Smokey (who was completely under the covers) licking my feet.
    Silly wiggle butts.

And because I want to, I'm gonna post a great Poem about the APBT for you.

What Animal Do I Speak Of?
    By Patty Letawsky

Their love is like no other,
their heart as pure as gold.
Yet while going on a friendly walk,
they're faced with stares of cold.

They're so very close to human,
in how they act and what they do,
Unless you've known their devoted love,
it's impossible to explain to you.

    They are greatly more misunderstood,
    than any other breed.
We tend to punish this loyal dog,
    Instead of mankind's deeds.

They are always and forever clowns,
with a wish for center stage.
Yet while displaying this sense of humor,
    most people disengage.

They, oh, so want to make new friends,
and run and jump and play.
    Yet when they happily approach,
    most people shy away.

    Often I've seen children poke,
or hop on for a ride.
And when I felt they might get mad,
    they've only beamed with pride.

I've seen these children yank and pull,
    with nary a reaction.
    Yet media's not interested,
unless they've put someone in traction.

When other dogs have made the news,
    this breed's name they affix.
But when this brave dog saves the day,
    they call him "Boxer mix".

They love to snuggle up real close,
to give lots of loves and kisses,
Yet they suffer more than any,
    from unfair prejudices.

Their tails wag hard and hips twist, too,
    more so than other mutts.
So those of us who know the breed,
    we call them "wiggle butts".

What animal do I speak of,
    Whose love is so unique?
    If you've truly known one,
you know of whom I speak.

There is no creature on this Earth
who will ever make you merrier.
The animal I do speak of,
it's the American Pit Bull Terrier.

    I second that!
    Hold your head high.
    Don't ever let 'em define
    The light in your eyes.
    Love yourself, give them Hell.
You can take on this world.
You just stand and be strong
    And then fight
    Like a girl.

OMG.... I was watching a show on Animal Planet called Animal Cops. It is a show based in Detroit. They rescued these Pit Bulls who were former fighting dogs. They were all under 18 months old- and hardly had any marks on them from fighting. Well, anyhow they had to kill them all because they were unadoptable. They showed this one puppy right before it was put to sleep- it was so adorable and the look in its eyes were gut wrenching. I wanted to cry- my eyes were watering so bad.

I think people who do this cruel stuff to animals (beating, starving, fighting etc.) should pay and it should be a horrible punishment. I am going to stop before I piss people off .

I think Pit Bulls are *so* cute!!

    Lablover,

There IS punishment for that type of crime it's called animal cruelty and it is a felony.

Pitbulls have gotten a bad rap because of so many things, i.e., drug dealers typically, who will beat, starve and even feed their dogs gun powder to make them go mad (it does something to their brain).

Pitbulls can be wonderful, loving dogs, as Noahsmommy and everyone else has described in their posts. It all depends on the kind of upbringing and training they've been subjected to. Love breeds love. Hate breeds hate. It's that simple.

In alot of states, because of the terrible publicity they've gotten, insurance companies will not insure anyone with a pitbull, due to the liability. The shelters and pounds are full of them. They are the most common breed on "doggy death row". How sad it is for the dogs.

So those of us who know the breed,
    we call them "wiggle butts".
When I would visit a friend with a "natural" pit bull (tail not docked) I would come home with bruises just below my knees - because his tail would whip in such a frenzy of love and greeting.

I never once felt threatened or worried - because of the care and training my friend gave a very wonderful dog.

I know there is punishment- but it is not has harsh as it should be. Those people who did that to the Pit Bulls had to serve a small amount of jail time, and pay under a $5,000 fine. To me that is not good enough. It should be YEARS in prison and a HUGE HUGE fine ($15,000+). When a child gets beat like that, the punishment is usually harsh- but for animal abuse half the time it is minimal. (Most of the time-not all.) Oh well- I can't do anything about it.

God ptu animals on this earth so we can do whatever we want with them. She kills things all the time and I told her it was peoples fault that pittbulls are like that. But she just says no its the breeds fault and they all should be killed. So we will ee what goes on.

Wow! What an ignorant person. I'm SO glad she's out there teaching young, impressionable minds!

Yes! Bow has her original tail...I was swatted in the head a few times with it while playing with her. Too cute!!
