    Punxsutawney Phil Thursday #353

Here in the States we have a few crazy traditions and 'holiday'.

We pull a poor groundhog out of his house and make him a weather man, If he sees his shadow, there will be a short winter. If not, we are in trouble.

Of course, the Ground Hog is treated way better than most of the people in the town, so no worries there.

But, those crazy PETA want to replace him....I fail to see why!

And just who or WHAT do they want to replace him with?

We are in for another winter storm. from 3 to 6 inches or snow but maybe as much as 12. They aren't real sure yet what track the storm will take just that it's on it's way, bringing sub-zero temps with it.

Hope there is plenty of hot cocoa and mallows on tap.

With all the lights from all the cameras, of COURSE he sees his shadow. And I doubt he even really wakes up for long.

Aunt Zsa was a Groundhog Day baby, she passed away last year. So in memory of Aunt Zsa, I propose we have a lovely tea at one end of the bar, with frilly napkins, and delicate cookies, scones and tea from a steaming china pot. Don't worry, I'll bring my prettiest teapot, and the delicate porcelain cups that we only use for special events, but I'll have a couple mugs handy for those whose hands are too big for the teensy delicate handles on them.

We're very familiar with Phil in this household. My husband's family is from a rural area in PA where "Punxsy" is the BIG town!

In honor of Punxsy Phil - a DOTD and I made a special mac & cheese with bacon and broccoli to share. Anyone?

We have our own groundhog. Wiarton Willy. He's in Ontario somewhere. Same deal though, with shadow or not, more winter or not.

Chilly here this morning, hot chocolate to start the day?

Well, good luck with that PETA. This tradition has been around here in Pennsylvania for over 100 years.

Do you think PETA would be offended if I sent them my Ground Hog recipes?

I'll make some hot chocolate, and still in honor of Aunt Zsa, I'll even serve it in the lovely hot chocolate pot and cups - porcelain of course, that I inherited from Aunt Bertha! I said "what's that" at the shape of the pot, and my antique-dealer friend told me "hot chocolate pot, of course"! My best hot chocolate is extra rich, and has cinnamon added - want some, Gayle? Others?

Count me in on the hot chocolate Karen. It's turning cold again after being rather mild.

I didn't know anyone knew what a hot chocolate pot was. I have a beautiful one with 6 matching cups that belonged to my mother, so I suppose it qualifies to be called an antique now. I have it in my china cabinet, along with a beautiful tea set and some other very old pieces. They all have a "look, but don't touch" status!
