Hi,
I don't normally write anything here on the pet/dog/cat of the day unless the animal catches my eye or makes me think back on an animal we use to have. When I saw the picture of your muscovy it brought back a lot of memories. When my little brother and I were younger my mom caught us a baby muscovy at the river and brought it home for us to raise. We had said we were only getting one, but we thought the baby needed company so we went back and got one of her sisters. We named them Jake and Topaz. They were so much fun and so precious to us. They slept in a dollhouse (the kind made for kids to play in) and they would wait on my every night at the front door to go put them in their dollhouse and shut the door. Each morning they'd be waiting on me to come and let them out. They had a kid-sized pool that they loved to take a bath in. They were inseperable--always together--the best of friends. They were so sweet to us too though. They would let us pick them up and hold them; they were so loving and gentle girls. After a year or so we got more muscovies and some of them were boys; they had babies with Jake and Topaz. Only one of Jake's eggs hatched but Topaz had 13 to hatch. We had Jake and Topaz for 4 years. Our bloodhound killed Topaz oneday--it has been a few years since but it still hurts when I think of her. Somehow Topaz got into the fence with my bloodhound. We still don't know how she got in. After Topaz died Jake quit eating much and she even quit taking baths in the pool. We could tell she was getting weaker--even though we had all those other ducks she still grieved for her sister Topaz. It just wasn't the same anymore and she got so bad and I found my dear ol' girl Jake dead one morning when I went to feed the ducks. I know she died from a broken heart...she just couldn't go on without Topaz. We have had a lot of ducks...atleast 50...most of them were related...some weren't....
Another one of my muscovies was Troy. She was deformed and walked on her knees. She had to use her wings for support at times. A lot of people from farm web-sites told me I should have her pts because of her deformity but I told them no--I would never do that. She had such a strong will to live and was very healthy. She just couldn't get around real well but she still ate and did usual duck stuff. She was a sweetheart and was really a big baby. She had such a beautiful heart and was just so amazing...but one night a raccoon killed her. We found the tracks of it and when we found Troy the 'coon had eat some of her. That was so terrible and I'll never forget it. We sat traps and caught the 'coon and carried him way off.
Then we had to move about a year after that and couldn't take our ducks with us so we had to let a friend of my grandpa's have them. She had a pond that they could swim in and had a huge fenced in area they would be in. It was so hard to let them go but we had to and at least I know they're safe.
Well I am so sorry to have kept on but your duck made me smile when I saw her on the pet of the day and I just wanted to tell you about my ducks and how much they meant to me.
I think it's so awesome how you saved her from that crow. That was nice of you.

What a lucky little one you were, having your soon to be forever person there that fateful day to save you! And what a wonderful, happy, carefree life you're enjoying now; definitely the good life!
I just loved your video, Beeker, you and Tuwee paddling in your "pool." I guess we know who rules the roost out your way!
If you tell us the year that Jake was POTD, we can post the link to her page! What lucky ducks they were, to have such a caring and loving guardian in you!
