    Snowballs and Winter Play

We've had quite a few warm days lately, but there's still plenty of snow on the ground in most of the yards and ours. I know there have been threads about snowballs - Bob asking Chris is they were real ...

Does your dog still play "ball" in the snow? Will he or she attempt to "fetch" a snowball, or will it get pounced upon and disappear?

How does your dog's playtime change in winter?

Riley2- we have two doggies named Riley on our street - one is a young male Shih Tzu, white and tan. The younger Riley is closer to me - she's a coal-black mid-size retriever mix, bulkier than a flat-coat, but with that kind of coat. In any case, she LOVES fetching her tennis ball, even in the snow - in fact having to tunnel through new-fallen powdery snow seems even better!

Do the cold, or ice, or snow change your dog's play routine?

    Bodea and Henry play

Bodea really LOVES the snow and dances/runs into drifts and up and over them. She really adores going for long walksk when it's snowing. The snowflakes just sit on her poodle fur and it only takes a towel to make her right again. She will chase snowballs but is smart enough not to try to fetch them back lol.

This is Henry's first winter! Though he's a little guy (short in stature, I mean) he adores snow and snow drifts and when playing in the backyard or on the trails to walk he is intrepid leaping into and trying to plow through. He likes to pick up ice balls that he finds and munch on them. He will chase a ball into a big snow drift and try to dig it out. This is one of his favourite past times

I tend to take them out for walks away from salty sidewalks, so they really appreciate the trails in winter.

Honda is actually MORE playful in the snow. She is not playful at all. She'll fetch a tennis ball about twice and then is done. Those are the only toys she plays with. But she likes running in the snow and stuff like that.

Lol, Remy is only seven weeks so I don't think she enjoys it yet. It just gets her wet and makes her walk funny. Poor pup
