    Our new dogpark

We finally got Star's tags and took her to the local dogpark..It's not much to look at, just an area fenced off (only 4' fencing in some places) and filled with mulch. People bring jugs of water. There are about 3 benches. No trees.
There were several dogs that arrived after we did, everyone got along fine. There was a really cute Jack Russel that followed Star all around. Her name is Snowbelle, and the two kids are her owners. The kids were really precious. The little girl was just a delight, and her brother tried so hard to get a dog, any dog, to fetch! He collected all the balls from the park, but the dogs were busily entertaining themselves. Met one guy who used to do GSD rescue, and had a very sharp looking young GSD. And there was a very sweet old labby (who was 17!) kind of tottering around.

This little red guy looked like a mini version of Anna's Huney! Star & the white boxer played together a bit.

    That's it for now!

    No trees.
Pat, maybe some of you that frequent the dog park could get together and get a few little trees planted. I'll bet Star enjoyed a day out with some new friends.

I was just reading in your blog about the park. Too bad there's no trees but it sure looks like there were some cute dogs there-in particular the one that looks like Huney.
I'm glad you have a park that Star can go to and meet some new friends.

Great idea Phred! Count me in too if you decide to do that Pat!

You and Star were spoiled having such a great park so close to home here in Ohio. But at least she still gets to spend time at a dog park and you both get to meet new friends!

Looks nice, I hope they can get some trees put in real soon!

I wish they would do something like that here too.

Just happen to have a number >>>

Benches and Trees are placed in City parks, City-operated beaches,
or a location that would have to approved by the City's Tree & Park Supervisor, Scott Wheeler.
You can call Scott Wheeler at the City of Newport Park Office ~ 401-845-5802.

(He was out when I called.)

Aw, glad you were able to find a new place for Star to run around and play. It looks like she is well on her way to making new friends already (love that Chow mix). Let us know if you are interested in putting one in in Sherman's memory (I would be interested too).

Looks like she had a great time! I bet she was glad that you found a new place for her to run and play. Great pictures. I hope you'll be ableot to plant a tree there though, it definitely looks like it needs something.

I just got off the phone with Scot, and he said his phone & internet service have been out for two days, sorry he didn't get back to ya, Phred, but he couldn't! Now he's way behind, so I told him I would fill you in.
Here's the deal - the location of the dogpark is actually temporary. The Parks Dept. doesn't own the land, and it is slated to be demolished whenever the State gets around to building that new off-ramp from the highway there. He said he'd feel really bad if it got bulldozed under after only a couple years. There is a Memorial Tree program in Newport, but I haven't checked on it yet either.

JoJoe & I are renting right now, and when we get our own place, we will buy a tree & plant it, but that may be a year or two away.

May I make a suggestion? I love the idea of having a tree dedicated to Sherman, and personally I think it would be nice if it got planted in the Findlay dogpark near the PT bench & trees...after all, that's where Sherman spent many, many happy hours. I assume PT pic-nics will continue to be held there, many of his friends would get to see the tree, remember him, and enjoy some shade. What do you think?

I'll check back later - I'm leaving town Wed. morning & will be gone for a week. (I'll check back before I leave, too)

    Well ... <nutz> ... It'd be nice if YOU & JoJoe could see the Memorial Tree;
but I could live with the Sherman Tree being in Findlay.

Gotta wonder if Mr. Timmy would "approve" another "challenge to mowing" inside the Park!
I can float the idea past him and see what he says ... haven't *bothered* him for Months!

Wonder if Sherman would mind sharing His Tree with the Lil Short Guy wiffa Fluffie Tail?

I'm leaving town Wednesday morning & will be gone for a week.
    ~ Wonder where she's goin?
    GOOD LUCK!!

I think 2 more tress in the Dog park (or even near the fence, just outside if mowing is too challenging!) is a good idea! Count us in if The idea flies with Mr. Head Ranger.
