Anyone surprised by the split and her "revelations"?

Not really except for the fact that he was supposedly physically abusive. I guess that goes hand in hand with alcoholism and drugs which he apparently still uses. I found it interesting that she is using Diana's attorney and he is using Charles' attorney.

I find it terribly hard to believe that we wouldn't already know if she had been physically abused. Presumably this is all because he wants custody of the child?

I never thought he should have married her in the first place (he should have married me - I would have made him happy!)

I also have a hard time believing the abuse wouldn't have been discovered by someone somewhere at sometime before this.

I hate to say it but for some reason a lot of women use that excuse when going through a divorce to get custody or more money.

I know because my ex step mother tried that when her and my dad split up because she didn't want him to get my little brother (which he wasn't even trying to do, he just wanted to be allowed to see him) She went into court and said that my dad would hit her all the time. LOL my dad has two other ex wives (yeah he's a busy man lol) and they both can attest to the fact that he would never even raise a hand let alone lay a finger on any woman. he wouldn't even spank his kids. It ended up not working for her anyway. but she has tried to make my dads life a living hell ever since.

If the things Heather is saying is true then I feel very bad for her but I just can't get past the thought that this is all a publicity stunt or to get more money and the kid.

In a divorce proceeding, at least here in Ohio, one does not get more money, nor necessarily custody, because they were abused.

Spousal and child support is a straight calculation based on earnings.

Custody is that which is in the best interest of the child, not whether a parent abused another parent, though that could be an indicator of NOT placing the child with the abusive party.

Lots of women use that excuse because it is true, often. Abuse takes many forms, and people, while married, go to extremes to hide it. Some people are genuinely afraid for their safety, and do not make such claims of abuse until they are safely established outside the marriage.

Sure, some people cry wolf. But, the secret lives of the abused and their abusers is just that, secret.

Yes well I am from Canada and that IS the case in London,Ontario. While it may be "secret" I am 150% positive my dad was not guilty of any such thing. They are civil with each other now and she has admitted it was a lie but still continues to reek havok on his relationship with his son. She does not approve of his "parenting tactics". She thinks that because he does not restrict his friends that he is unfit.... even though he was active in three of his childrens lives (even though divorced) and none of us has ever been in serious trouble. No trouble with the cops, no trouble when we were in school, other than typical teenage attitude we did not do the things MANY teens do these days. My dad is the most laid back, gentlest, fun loving man that I have ever known. If he was going to abuse anyone it would be my bitch sister who verbally abuses him ALL the time, but he loves his kids and he even loves his ex's (although not in the same way as when they were married) he has even played a foursome of golf with my mom and her husband and him and his woman and they had a wonderful time. LOOL we even went on vacation and his FIRST wife came with us (my brother, her son, was the one that organized the trip) and this guy did a survey with us and he was shocked that he was on vacation with his ex wife LOL

I have a hard time believing that any celebrity or their spouse that airs their dirty laundry is telling the truth. I have a hard time believing that anything they say is the truth. It's all to further their reputation and since she is seen as such a bitch by the media she is willing to tarnish his reputation in order to improve her reputation. That is my opinion though.

I think she used him to carry on her cause. He was married to Linda for what? 32+ years. I doubt the pot/alcohol has anything to do with anything. Besides, he's a national icon in the UK. They love him. She did porn and there are pictures to prove it.

I agree with you Cataholic that a lot of times the abuse does not come out until after the woman is out of the household and the proceedings are started because the female then feels safe enough to make such things public. But in this particular case, I do not feel that he was abusive. Yes, it may be more wishful thinking than anything. But as a Beatlemaniac from way back, I somehow just feel that all of us who have taken every opportunity to try and pry into their private lives and minds would have had some sort of inkling of this type of behavior. What I have seen seems to indicate that he is too emotionally weak to be abusive.

It'll be interesting to see how this all ends. I never thought it would last either. I'm also wondering if Paul's daughter Stella knew more about "Mommy Dearest" than she was letting on, and that's why she was so dead set against him marrying her.

No, but one DOES get more publicity and media attention, when one's divorce is in the limelight, if one says they were abused.

No one will ever know the truth but those two people what went on behind closed doors.

But, it just seems strange ... as far as I can remember, I've never heard a single bad thing about Paul McCartney before this. Ever. Everything I've ever heard about him has been kind, generous and nice. He has just always seemed like a truly nice person to me. It seems almost impossible, in this age of media obsession with exposing a star's every move and word to the public, that some of this supposed horrible behavior would have surfaced about him before now, if it were true.

But, that's just a guess. Like I said, no one will ever know for sure but the two of them.
