    My Kitten does not purr!

I have a kitty that is 1 year old and he does not purr!!!! He doesn't even "meow" very often. He is not a lap kitty and is somewhat anti-social. My daughter's cat was the same way for the first couple years and then began to purr and became much more loving.
    Anyone else have this situation?
    Thanks!!

    About The Purr

Hi-my Best Friend Had A Female Cat That Didn't Really Purr. She Would Sometimes Open Her Mouth And Give An Almost Silent Meow. She Was An Indoor Spayed Cat But Previously She Had Been Rescued From A Rather Crowded Difficult Situation And Had Apparently Mis-carried A Litter. She Would Only Allow My Friend The Pleasure Of Her Services As A Sometime Lap Cat. Maybe Some Cats Have A Very Low Purr-but I Almost Think They All Do Purr. As You May Know-they Purr To Comfort Themselves When Sick Or Scared Too. I Read That In The Magazine "cat Fancy" A Very Worthwhile Magazine To Subscribe To.one Of My Cats Is Quiet And Hissy Toward Me Other Cat But At Night-hours Before The Rooster Crows ( No-i Live In A Town-no Roosters!) My Cat Will Sneak Over To Be With Me Alone And Purrs Away. I Guess It Goes With The Personality. Hope You And The Furr Ball Are Doing Well. Peace Susanswatlin518

My abused kitty did not purr for 2 years

Hi,My husband and I picked up a 5 week old someone had thrown out of a car, into the middle of the street. We took him to the vet to make sure he was o.k.We took him home to live with us.One of our neighbors told us that he knew who had tossed him out and that he had been horribly abused.Poor baby.He was half Russian Blue so we named him Blue Kitty. We were very gentle with him, never made him stay if He wanted to leave. When He was 2 years old(which seemed like forever)He purred one day and He has not quit since. He sleeps on the bed now with my husband,me,and our other cat children.Blue Kitty is 12 years old.

I've had fosters that wouldn't purr.
They have to be comfortable in their surroundings. Is your kitty scared at all?
Tail between legs? Runs for cover?
Does your kitty groom in public?

I don't think it's anything to be concerned with.
Just show kitty as much love as he can handle.

Aroara is not a purry kitty. It was 2 years before I ever heard her purr. In fact I wasn't even exactly sure it was a purr the first time I heard it. They are VERY few and far between. I even asked the vet tech about it one time.

My cat Socks purrs very low. I can barely hear him purring. I can tell he his purring by felling under his chin. He does meow a lot.

Our BART has a low purr, as big as he is, 26 lb. and Princess is the same, you have to be almost touching to hear them. Our newest Roscoe at 8 weeks you can hear for 3 blocks. I can almost tell who is on the bed by the purr. Except Mits he likes to give me a wet willy and purr so loud that I wake up to pet him. He then goes into a soft purr.
