    My poor car

In a different thread, I posted about taking apart my classic car, again. Well, for those of you that are interested here it is. A '68 Mercury Cougar that I've owned since 1999. It was the first car I bought with my own money and not a hand-me-down.

Here's some pictures from a few years ago when I use to take her to shows:

I truly love this car, but we very much have a love hate relationship. Everytime I fix something, something else randomly breaks. I've put a lot of miles on this car and now that I have multiple vehicles I have the opportunity to really focus on bringing her up to standard. So I've pulled the engine, transmission, and fixed a lot of interior things. Once the engine and trans are back in I'll get to work on replacing most of the almost 40 year old wiring.

Here's some pictures of the current progess, or lack thereof as it may appear:

The entire engine compartment has been grinded, sanded, primed and is currently awaiting paint and new hoses. Not too shabby, but it's been really hot during the day, so I've procrastinated a bit. Once the new engine is built I'll be more motivated to finish the prep/paint work.

Might as well throw in a picture of the competition. This is my families other "new" car and the current project that took the cougar's garage space. This one is coming around much quicker.

I took the engine out and tore it down to just a bare block and parts. However, I'll send it out for all the machine work and makign it look new. I'm not sure if I'll put it back together, or let one of my dad's friends with a shop do it.

My dad had both my brother and I around cars from an early age. As far back as I can remember there's always been a classic car, and or boat in are garage that we could help work on. Where I grew up cars meant everything. Once you had a license and a car you were finally free.

The '56 was a great find. I love the Nomad and it's good to see it in the garage. Many years ago my dad had a '56 post sedan that he had to sell due to time constraints. When this one turned up in a barn there was no saying no.
