Turtle in the yard
I'm sorry I don't have a picture yet, but I thought you would enjoy knowing that Mimi stalked a turtle in our front yard today!!
Helen and I went out to breakfast, and Mimi was outside. When we returned, we could tell she was really looking at something. It was a turtle (have no idea what kind) and he was just strolling though the flower bed. I got pictures and will post them as soon as they are developed!! It was fun to watch. We sat there for at least 30 minutes. Mimi lost interest very quickly and was no threat to the turtle.

Logan..hurry and get those photos finished! I would love to see them. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif I had a similar kind of thing happen. Several years ago my son had an iguana in a cage in the basement. That is also the cats' domain because their food and litter boxes are down there. One day I came down to feed them and scoop and I found Trevor standing on the floor next to the iguana who had somehow gotten out of his cage. We still have no idea how he did it! Trev just seemed very interested and fortunately didn't attempt to play with him like he does to the occasional cricket down there because the crickets usually end up dead! Fortunately for your turtle too he has his "house" on top of him! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif

Never a dull moment around here! This morning, I was mopping the kitchen floor, and I heard Honey just crying outside. I finally went out to see if she was ok, and found her about to die to get over the fence. Butter was in my neighbors yard, in a wooded section, stalking something. I went on over and was crossing my fingers that it wasn't another snake, and he had chased a poor little chipmunk up a tree. By the time I got to him, the little thing was in his mouth. I picked him up, and forced him to drop it! You should have seen that boy wiggling and kicking to get down and chase the chipmunk. I held on tight!!! Got him inside, and he just collapsed on the floor, panting!! But he was MAD at me!!! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/mad.gif
One life saved today!! And it sounds like your son's iguana was lucky too! Mimi loves lizards and they usually aren't so lucky.
Hope to get those pictures soon, Pam. I'm dropping the roll off today.

How big was the iguana? If he was a big one, he'd probably just whip your poor little cat with his tail.
I'd love to see those pics of the turtle he was stalking.
It is great to save an animals life isn't it? I felt the same way when I saved my finches' life from my cat's jaws. My heart was racing a mile a minute when it happened.

Ben...The iguana was about 14" long, just a little guy. I picked him up by his tail and carried him back to his cage. My son told me later that they can detach their tails. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/eek.gif

Yes, your son is right. If he felt threatended, that is one of his defenses. You would be left standing there holding his tail, and he'd be running away, free. But it would take him a while to grow it back. I think, I'm not sure, but I think he can bleed from it, so you have to be careful about that if he detaches his tail.
Glad to here the little guy is OK.

What a lousy photographer I am. I ended up with no pictures of Mimi and the turtle in the same frame. But at least you can see her stalking the turtle, and what the turtle looked like too. Sorry!

I can't really see the turtle too well. But it looks like a box turtle. Or maybe some type of tortous.

I am a terrible photographer, Ben, and that turtle blended right in with the straw! It was fun watching him though. He was mostly brown, with some orange colored markings. I figured he was a box turtle. Just glad he was in the front yard, not the back. Honey would have carried him around all day if she had seen him. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/eek.gif

Sorry, I didn't mean to double-post. I just realized that you can't really see his shell in the first picture! I guess you can't remove one picture and replace it with another. oops!

He looked exactly like that ThelmaLu! Your picture is much better than mine! LOL!!! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif
Is Yertle a box turtle?
-
Yes, thanks to a link posted here by Ben, I have been able to identify him as a Common Eastern Box Turtle, although I don't think there is anything common about him! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif
