It wouldn't hurt to try the B-12, right? I'm not sure how much good it did for Taz, but Tracey (krazyaboutkatz) is the one that suggested it to me. She had good results with it.

Does Sir Max like catnip? If he does, you may let him have a bit to play in before his treatment. It calms cats down who need to travel too! :love:
Well, I am sorry that Max puts up such a fuss when it is time to give him the fluids. Sure sounds like Spunky!!!! It is good that he is eating, that is always a good sign!!! It sure sounds to me that Max is not going any place, and you will have a few more gray hairs(I do not know if you are old enough to have them!!!). Personally, I like when they fight....it was so depressing when Raven STOPPED fighting...HUGS to you and Max....
Slick, I'm sorry to hear it's a problem giving Max fluids, but as someone said, it's good that he has the strenght to put up a fight, and also that he eats. :)
Capnip might relax him a bit, so you should try that too. How about giving him the fluids on sunday ( when you're less stressed), tuesday and thursday?

How is Max doing, especially in this disgusting heat we are having? Do you have an A/C? I'm leaving my fans on all day, keeping all the blinds shut and I am freezing water bottles at night and leave them out for the girls to lay next to during the day.

How is Max doing??? Well I get some fluid into him but I'm afraid he doesn't get enough before he struggles to get away. He absolutely hates the poke but I know it's necessary. I'm doing what I can as long as he tolerates it. The minute I feel that his quality of life is at stake, I'll stop it.
My fans are on all day too but it doesn't seem to be doing any good. They just blow hot air....

I think it is normal to see that in all that heat he sleeps.
He looks like a big snowball so I am sure he would prefer some coolness;)

Good idea Randi! Slick, maybe even some ice cubes put into a plastic bag with a towel over it so he could sleep on it.

Slick, I'm so sorry to hear this disheartening news about Max. I knew something was calling me back to PT.....
I can't offer any advice that hasn't already been given. Both Tubby & Peanut tolerated the fluids relatively well and didn't fight...except once when Tubby started feeling better and the needle came out and fluids spurted all over the place. Not funny at the time, but it brings a smile to my face as I remember.
All I can do now is offer {{{hugs}}} to you and Max. Prayers and positive thoughts are on their way, and will continue as long as necessary.

Thank you all for your prayers and hugs. They are much appreciated. There have been times when the needle is hard to insert and sometimes I just let it go and try again the next night. I poke in a differnt spot each time.
Debbie.....how nice to see you on line again. I think of you often.....:) LOL, the needle coming out has happened to me also. Yes, it's awful at the time but now I laugh about it.:D
I must admit that tonight Max seems to be almost back to normal. His input and output are good and he is more alert and talking. Then again, that could be because our outside temp has cooled off significantly. Makes for comfortable sleeping again. Doesn't matter to me...I'm taking it as a good sign.
That sad part is that he's just a carcass with fur....skin, bones and fur. It's so hard to watch. :(
I'm so pleased that Max seems to be feeling a bit better. :love: And I'm glad for your sake too that the temperature is down a bit. Still sending oodles of healthy vibes to you and furry Max. I think of you often.
It's good to hear Max is feeling better. I am sure the temperature is part of it- and I hope it gives him a little more appetite. If he is feeling fine and eating on his own maybe you can take down the frequency of fluids - maybe twice a week would be enough. This would give him more time to relax in between.

Is there any high-calorie food that Max could safely eat for a bit to get his weight up somewhat? I know it can't be high protein...but maybe your vet has an idea or two.

Last night's treatment was not good. The minute my neighbour enters the door, he runs and hides. He didn't fight that much but my poor boy...as soon as I put him on the counter, he started drooling profusely. Then as the flow started, he pooped right on the spot. :(
This is stressing him out so much so that I'm thinking of not continuing. Does that make my a bad meowmie????

Slick you are a GOOD meowmie. Is there an option that you can take him to a vet for fluids. We do that with Filou as you know and it separates the bad fluids for him from normal life. Wishing you all the best for whatever decision you take.

Slick, I'd never call you a bad cat meowmie. Sometimes it's very difficult to help our cats without stressing them out. As others have said, you need to look at his quality of life and just help him to remain as happy and comfortable as you can. Lots more prayers and positive thoughts are being sent Max's way.
