Had it with the Food Channel...

I really thought they were going to pick Lisa. I was so happy when they announced that Aaron won. Unfortunately, I didn't catch his 4 1/2 minute taping because I got a phone call:( I'll catch it on a rerun. The judges were so impressed with him.

It seems that Lisa has a million things going on so she'll be okay but Adam seems lost. I hope they both get some offers.

YAY AARON!!!! I can't wait to see his show next week!!

I forgot to ask if anyone saw the show after the NFNS? Food Detective with Ted Allen(I think that was it). What did anybody think of it?

I thought they were going to pick Lisa as well. Her taping went really well, and I almost liked her, lol. :p

I am really really really happy that Aaron won! The only thing that got me with his taping was that I could hardly understand a word he said!!! He spoke so darn fast, and blurred so many of his words together, it was really difficult to make out a lot of what he said.

Other than that, I'm glad they looked past that and picked him anyway!! YAY!!! I'm sure Lisa will excel at what ever she goes on to do after this. Maybe she'll go to the Fine Living Network and get a show there, or end up on a show on Food Network later on.

I really hope to see Kelsey at some point doing a show or something. She had such spunk and was really good! She had everyone else beat on the "Vote for your favorite" on their site as well!

i was trying to catch the last episode of the NFNS and came across someone who I had never seen before on the TVFN. Her name is Nolan or Noonan. The program was on the On Demand part of my cable.

I started to watch a part of the program and had to turn it off.

Why? Her hair.

Again, they have a 'personality' who's grooming habits are pretty horrific.
The TVFN is hung up on making people pretty-this woman does the RR hand swipes and moves her head more than a actress in a hair care commercial.
In the 10 minutes I watched she had one side of her long hair behind her shoulder, by the time I turned it off both sides were in front of her shoulders and she was moving around so much that I had to turn it off because I started to obsess about how many hairs I'd find if I ate at her house.

Was the NFNS pcked by the judges?

If so, it shows that the TVFN is still reeling from the Jag remarks from last season. Their approach to progamming is pretty insulting - It focuses on putting on niche cooks - Latin cooks that only cook Latin meals, Black people who only cook BBQ, Italians that only cook Italian.

While I do dislike Booby Flake, he does cook outside his mango salsa/chipotle safety net. It's more fun to watch someone cook a meal that entertains me as opposed to someone who does the same thing over and over again.

As with the Neely's and the BBQ- how many pasta dishes can Giada make? Will RR ever cook a whole chicken instead of chicken fingers? How many plantain dishes can we possibly make? Fried, fried and fried?:rolleyes:


Formulas are nice for medicine and secret potions....but they get old rather quickly when looking at food entertainment.:rolleyes:

Richard, this year the judges picked the winner. Aaron's first show is on Sunday at 1:30 EST. That's the same time Amy Findlay aired when she was on. They're calling it, "Big Daddy's House". In the clips, he is loaded with energy.
Aaron should be different in that he cooks all over the place and not just one type of cuisine.

With Jag last year and Amy not working out, I guess they decided they should choose.

I am also entertained by Booby. I especially like new episodes of throwdown. Even though, he seems to sometimes go way out of the traditional way to do a challenge. Did anybody see the one that was aired last night? He had a throwdown with Paula Deen making country fried steak. The judges both said her's was too salty and they picked her to win anyway. I think she whined her way into the win.

I hope Aaron is really a treat to watch.

I just had to bring this thread back up after watching FN yesterday.

Ok. Enough of Anne Burrell. I'm getting a little squeamish watching her slap everything and digging with her hands.

Speaking of squeamish....Did anybody see Paula Deen yesterday with her and her friend from Savannah making cinnamon rolls? Those two didn't use a utensil for any part of the prep. They were digging butter out with their fingers, patting the ingredients on the dough with their fingers. It was a slopfest. Way over the top. It was sickening. I loved how Paula kept telling the lady to deep fry her rolls for better flavor. And.....lo and behold.......she deep fried some dough on skewers.

I don't have a problem with handling some things without utensils but FN is getting to be too much.

I love Iron Chef and I'm so happy to see new shows on Sunday night. Last night it was curry for the secret ingred. I've decided that some of the things they prepare on that show come from part of an animal I want nothing to do with. Among other things. Some things I see, turn my stomach. I'm always surprised that the judges eat this stuff and don't gag on some foods.

Is it necessary to go so far over the edge to prepare good food? Won't some simple dishes with normal ingredients do the same?

I saw Aaron's new show yesterday at 1:30. I thought it was good. He was on with the Neely's before that. Both segments kept my interest. He still can't talk and cook at the same time but he's gotten alot better.

I can't help but wonder what happened with Aaron's son that ran away from home. I haven't heard anything else.

I was watching the Ask Aida show the other day.

Talk about BORING. IT's the old Tyler FLorence show-the one with the Gal who can't boil water sidekick-this time it's a dopey male computer nerd sidekick.:rolleyes:

AB is too hyper and showy-enough.

Here are two more instances of why the TVFN channel is getting less and less time on the tube in my house.

They didn't happen on the food channel but-I was flipping the channels and came across Mario B. cooking on the Martha Stewart show, on the next channel Paula Deen was on one of the shopping networks.

Mario made some kind of focaccia (sp?) and Martha was 'helping' -Now, why does SHE have to do the same recipe as the cook? She was her usual Anal Retentive self-Mario made a mess and Martha had to make her batch of dough perfectly.....MB looked like he was peeved by the time they were finished with the segment.

I then flipped it back to the Paula Deen sell-a-thon. She was selling some pre package stuff she put together......during the cooking and tasting she is talking to the host, some doofus guy that they spoofed on Saturday night live once-PD interrupts the host and starts to laugh about a piece of food she spits onto the guy jacket. She laughs again, then reaches over, picks the food off of his jacket and then puts it back in her mouth.

I quickly turned the channel.....

Paula Deen is everywhere. I can't get away from her. After some of the stunts she pulls on Paula's Party, we know how nasty she can be.
Her Smithfield commercials are pretty funny. She's a terrible actor.

Has anybody watched Aaron's show on Sunday? I think it's pretty good. He seems to be a really good cook. I think FN picked a winner with him.

Have I mentioned lately that I'm in love with Pat Neely? I love him more and more. Look out Gina!!!!!:)

Food Defective show is boring, it's an Alton Brown show without the cooking.

Dinner Impossible is really lame now.

I caught about 5 minutes of the "Devil went down to Georgia" show and it's really unwatchable.

He was supposed to cook for 300 people and CHarlie Pride -I think.

Toward the end of the show he looked into the camera and says something like, "I don't have to yell at my crew, They can do the job without me yelling!" IT's an obvious slam at Robert Irvine and he said something else that was totally off the wall.

Then the word gets from the staff where he is cooking,to the woman running the kitchen that he is falling behind. The woman comes out and tells him that she heard he was behind schedule. When she leaves he makes a comment about how the kitchen staff should not say anything about him and his cooking-they can do the challenge.

So he starts to spin around gets people to fix one service of all the food, so he woun't lose the challenge, then takes it to the dressing room for the star.
Of course, it's the most delicious food ever cooked!

I turned it after that....

I'm glad you borught this up, Richard. Michael Symon is terrible on that show. I only saw the one where he went to Alcatraz. It was so bad, I could only watch part of it. As I remember, he wasn't even in a rush and everything fell together perfectly. That didn't really fit the show's title:rolleyes:

I see Guy Fieri has another show coming on. How long can this guy hold up on the diet he eats without collapsing?

I was bored and tuned into the Ask Aida show again. What a diva-I have to laugh at the questions-anyone with half a brain can see that they structure the show around what they get asked.....Doofus Computer Dude is totally useless. She made fish and chips -the chips were deep fried sweet potatoes.

THIS GOES BACK TO MY SWEET PEEVE! Everything has to be sweet. Notice all the BBQ sauces, creams and dressings! Honey, sugar-brown and white-and molasses. I love ketchup but will use tabasco over it because of the SUGAR....If you go out and get an Arby's/Boston Market's or Subway sandwich all the meats are sugary sweet. I try to make my own BBQ sauce when I can. Vinegar, some ketchup, tabasco and spices. The bottled crap-especially the honey flavored styles are just honey flavored ketchup with packets of sugar added.

There are a few other shows that I saw were being promoted and have no desire to watch.......The Cooking in the Loft show looks like it's a show with all the tips you have ever seen on TVFN all rolled into 1/2 hour.

The Neely's really creep me out. Her squirming and his "duh/wow/how did you do that?" look on this face! I have seen that look on kid's faces when the see a magician.:confused:

I don't bother with RR or Emeril anymore. Alton Brown don't cook and Fieri in his TGIF commericials is all I can handle.


The 'date' commercial really bugged me. At the beginning the girl, sitting across from her date gets up and Fieri slides in to give the dude some advice on what to order?

He then picks something off the plate and slides out......Ugh, just the thought of having my girlfriend absorb some of his "butt heat" off the bench creeps me out. LOLOLOLOLOL....:rolleyes:

THe latest Jack Daniels commercial makes want to choke. There is a reason why he should pursue his cooking business.........He'll stay in the back and out of sight.

I saw part of a Big Bite program. He beats some eggs for a breakfast dish,
then places the mixture into the skillet.

He takes another frying pan full of sausage and dumps that into the empty bowl where he beat the eggs. Now I have always tried not to cross contaminate food when I cook-even though I thought he was going to reheat the sausage in the eggs I didn't think this was the smartest move....

He always seems to be a nervous, hyper wreck. Especially on Big Bite. Nothing he does surprises me. I catch him in alot of mistakes.

Guy Fieri gets on my nerves. He grabs food from strangers plates and they look obviously annoyed. He acts entitled every time he goes in to a restaurant getting more than just his "free sample"..

My husband talks about how people go to "wash" their hands but all they do is run them under water and call it good. :p

I've been so busy lately, haven't sat down to really watch much of Food Channel. What I have seen is more than enough of Guy Fieri stuffing his face where ever he goes. What the heck man?! All he does is scarf up tons of food. How is he not 500lb by this time??? His next show should be "Losing It with Guy Fieri".

The Neely's just bug me. I like the husband, but the wife, Gina. Ugh. She is always so giggly and girly, and shaking her bootie about everything. I think the last one I saw with them was Road Tasted, where they went to a bunch of different ice cream places, and they had organic and fresh icecream. Not sure about you, but I'm tired of seeing organic slapped on everything. My mom laughs and says how my dad grows all these veggies on the farm, and the guy who farms next door sells things by the road side, slaps ORGANIC on his sign, and he and my dad's veggies and stuff sell for how much more a pound/dozen etc. She just doesn't get it. People who come and buy straight from my dad get the regular price, same with the food markets. They buy from him by the bushel, peck or whatever by the pound.

I'm actually not working tonight, and don't have to go to work till tomorrow (Saturday) at 6pm, so maybe I'll watch some late night Food TV.

Gina Neely on Road Tasted is a joke. Once again, she tries to take over the camera and upstage poor Pat. I still love Pat and I really think he deserves better than her trying to steal his thunder.

I love the organic thing, Jennie. I always wondered, how in the heck can we prove whether or not it's organic? Are we going to take it to a lab and have it analyzed? I doubt it.

I just heard that you will no longer see Emeril on TVFN. He has moved to FLN for good. Just as we suspected.


Fieri's show is a EL clone, He will have people yelling OVER THE TOP-trying to erase "BAM" from our conscious. He could eat like a pig for all I care. It's his manners! He has none and it's irritating that the people who program the network find that his annoying personality passes as entertainment. LIke the huge bites of food he takes, the TVFN is trying to shove GF down our throats.

THe same formula as R Ray. Saturate the airwaves with a personality and eventually we will yak it up. It's like the Nathan's Hot Dog contest on the 4th of July. You are really pumped up for it until you realize that you have watched people eat 50+ plain hot dogs.

Another person that seems to have overloaded my gastric sensory system is Giada. Seems like every time I tune in she is flashing clevage and telling us that it's yummy or delicious. I love Sandra Lee but got burned out on her beause every thing was beautful and she wasn't flashing me and boobage!:rolleyes:

I went to Target and there was every RR cookbook on display-The worst part is the cover. They all have the same picture of her-looking like she drank about 18 shots of espresso or whatever she takes to keep that dopey smile on her face.

Another offering with my cable provider is Gordon Elliot, producer of some of the programs on the channel, hosting a series where he looks for people that make pedal cars-the kind we had when we were kids- out of metal. I watched that show and it was really boring and had nothing to do with food-he probably has a deal in place that allows him to get that tripe on the network.


I saw the winner of the last FNS competition and I like the way he cooks, but he seems like he is forcing his commentary during the show. One thing I caught was the 5-6 shots of hand washing and the way his hands look? I couldn't tell if they were all jacked up from cooking or what!

So, I still think NIgella rocks my sauce pan and think that she is on just enough for me to look for her and wonder what kind of crumbs she'd bring to the bed.:confused:

Of course, She'd have to sleep in the 'crumb spots'!:D

I just went back thru this thread and saw a post about a TVFN contest where the winners were going to go to the November 2 NASCAR RACE.

I think it was PD and GF hosting....

I have to look for the tie-ins and the one hour special that they will air.

The FLN is a Mothra Stewart vehicle. It's her station/channel. I don't get it on my cable.

Alton Brown is a total loser.

Tonight on the Iron Chef program (snail battle) I tuned in to see what was beig cooked. I stuck around because, as in all ICA programs they cook so much weird stuff I could not figure it out.

They were cooking sweetbread and snails, When AB went to talk to the judges they had some wrestler, a woman and the grumpy white guy that never likes anything, Steingartner? AB first asks the wrestler about snails and the guy makes a "never really ate them before, but I will keep an open mind" comment, the woman give some benign answer and the conversation goes to the old dude. AB asks him about his experience with snails. It's jeffrey steingartner, I think.....He says that he had hoped that there would have been some kind of giant African snail that is a foot long. He holds his hands up about a foot apart while talking to show how big they are.

AB then says, "Well maybe you and the wrestler can go out after the show and share a giant snail dinner." The camera cuts back and forth to the two panel members and they are sitting there with an absolutely blank look on their face. Obviously AB meant it as a joke, but you can tell that it was verging on some kind of some kind of sexual insult.

When Brown sees that he has offended them in some way and says, "Let's just move along." I am paraphrasing here because I had to stop and try to figure out what had just happened, It took place around 15 minutes in to the program....check it out.


If you watch the end of the new AB series you probably will see the usual mentions of all the people who 'donated' travel and lodgings for the series.
If the TVFN had to pay for the programs it would never get made.

I think I posted this before but, The TVFN show producers go to the travel councils of the area where they want to do the program and pitch the idea to the members. The members, looking for a cheap way to bring in tourists, call all their relatives or people who they get kickbacks from to promote their businesses.

The show gets made and if you get 500,000 people to view it, even a one percent increase of traffic into an area means 5,000 more people to spend money during a travel season.

Oh I almost forgot.

Watch how many eateries that he goes to and gets a plate on the table in front of him. I just saw the first segment of the program, The dish was Salted Cod in Creole sauce. HE never tasted the dish and when he went back to talk to the woman who was cooking, He picked up the raw piece of fish on the table then wiped his hands on his jeans.:rolleyes:

HE did the same thing in his other specials. With other traveling cooks they taste what is prepared, this dude is a wuss.:rolleyes:

About cah lee fuh nee ahns and grilled food. We have nice weather most of the year, I have grilled in 35 degree weather-so it is true, we are crazy.

But, there is a joke about us Mexican people and why we do not BBQ....
It's because the beans and rice fall thru the grill!:D;)

I have seen people grill fruit, weird...and even avocados!:rolleyes:

I saw Iron Chef last night. The AB thing was just plain weird. It was one of the weirdest IC's I've ever seen. The snails probably tasted ok but almost the whole show grossed me out. Wasn't it nice to give the giant wrestler a larger plate?? He's trying 10 or more dishes. How much does he really need to eat? He probably went out to eat after the show.:rolleyes:

I gotta say I loved the AB show afterward. The bush tea was strange but......whatever. I guess it's a custom?
AB is just like GF and most everybody else on the FN. They have a huge dish prepared for them and they barely touch it. I was sitting there thinking about how much food they waste on that network.

Of course, I understand they can't eat it all because they would wiegh 500 pounds but......AB acted like he was always starving and never tasted half the food. Wasn't that the idea of the show? To sample the food?

Did you catch the part where he was walking through the cane field wearing black socks and sneakers? Holy Cow!! I know they did that for a laugh. Speaking of cane, they use it in everything.

What about when the captain of the boat told him there were naked women running all over the island they were going to. AB acted like he didn't hear him.

After that show, Michael Symon was on with the Charlie Daniels Dinner Impossible. Symon was actually panicking and sweating. It was something I haven't seen before in one of those shows.

I never thought about boneless chicken having no flavor. Those chicken fingers at Applebee's are delicious!!

I was totally intrigued by the cayenne pepper in the devils food cake they served. I think Symon put it in the frosting.

When the lady came out and told Symon that they had to serve the food earlier because the people showed up early, who cares? Tell them they'll eat when it's ready. That really got all over me how he hopped to it when she spoke. If you tell me 10:00 it's going to be 10:00 or, would you rather eat food that may not be cooked long enough?

I haven't seen anybody grill an avocado yet.

I think I get FLN on my cable. I'll check it out. I'm not positve that it's there but I think it is.

I had to laugh about the "cheeseburger in paradise"...

When I go on vacation I don't eat at the 'established' eateries, I go native.:rolleyes:

I may get Beijing Bowel, Montezuma's Revenge, The Congo Crouch or the Kim Chee Squats.....But, I am on vacation, I am going native! I guess there is the allure to eat at the stool -pun intended?- where Jimmy Buffett ate a cheeseburger in paradise, but I won't go there for that one dish.

I want fish liver, pig kidneys, turtle tail soup! :confused I guess I might have to chow down at a Mickey D's while I'm in Macedonia, Mexico or Morocco. I can do that at home, anytime!;)

The other thing I noticed is the AB interruptions!
STFU! The Salt Cod Woman should have slapped him in the head with the fish.

AB interrupting: He was so hyper on that entire show. He's always like that but he seemed unusually overwraught. I've often wondered how he avoids spending most of his time in a bathroom. The man will eat anything. Don't put him and GF on the same shoot with one Port-A-Potty.

I saw the RR show this morning on CBS. Am I bored out of my mind or what? She has a bus that's touring the country to go around and help people cook meals in their homes. Supposedly, her chefs will teach people better cooking skills. It's got "Rach Reaches" on the side of it and it's bright red. I think that's what it said but I'm not sure. Pretty close anyway.
There are like 6 chefs traveling on it. Aaron McCargo is one of them. The others are winners of cooking shows and other things.

Look for that big red bus in your town.

Fake is probably feeling the push of TVFN to keep 'fresh' ideas on the plate. :rolleyes:

You can tell that Tooshman and the other chickie babe that judged the NTFNS are starving-LOL, how many food puns can I put into this post?-for new ideas and they are probably pushing the 'stars' to the boiling point.

If you notice, they are pushing the "smaller" shows off the air as soon as they do a run of 10-12 shows. Someone mentioned that the first winner of NTFNS was given a limited run of 6 shows. That keeps them from keeping a dog on their hands. If you notice that show was never rerun-they washed their hands of her pretty quickly. AB show is run as a 4 part special and it's mostly AB- I had a hard time being interested in watching him. They did one recipe, made tea, stopped to eat at a roadside stand and ate a cheese burger.

I would have liked to see him try to cook on the ship. I have always loved the BBQs that are on hung on the stand on the side of the boat. Try to make a cheeseburger on one of them.

I love the Andrew Zimmern and Anthony Bourdain shows on the Travel Channel. The trip around and show you how it's cooked, what is eaten and talk to people, They don't interrupt every word their guests say and try to overpower them with tidbits of trivia or guess what the cook is adding to the dish.

Other TV chefs have been able to endure because they do not have to worry about getting pushed into going on the road, hawking utensils and doing more than one show a year.


The network is saturated with show after show of recipes that have already been done. I saw Florence do a braised short rib recipe that I have seen everyone else do-He did it differently by using pureed veggies instead of tossing chopped ones into the bottom of the pot. A different twist to be sure! I would like to try that. That keeps me interested in some shows.-but for the most part it's all Stupid Chef Tricks, wash your hands and the same expletives used to describe the food and tastes. Woody, Nutty, Smoky, Beautiful, Lovely, Bam, Off the Hook. I want to shzush this together, Hit it with some salt and think that it's MONEY!

Some tips? How about a show where they show you how appliances are made? A short, six part -1/2 hour each -series would be good. Go to a country and watch the locals cook the cuisine native to the are.

Noodles? Do a show on noodles, the kind from different countries and how to prepare them, how they are served and why. Don't turn it into chemistry test or a scavenger hunt to find ingredients. Make it attainable to people who like to cook.

I saw a restaurant show where they followed a guy Rocco Dispirito (?) open up shop, It was way too much 'reality' show and RS came off as a real (fake) AH. Follow someone in Littletown, America, not some jerkwad who names a restaurant after himself. We tend to look at food as status, comfort and rank.

I go to eat, not to be subjected to a pompous, arrogant moron who is more enamoured with a name than he is with giving a customer a quality meal that they do not hesitate paying a premium price.

Sometimes a .99 cent hamburger is just as good as a 100 dollar can of caviar.:D

IT's some kind of cooking school show. I don't think that it's a competition-it looks like they will follow some aspiring chefs thru school..

The news paper sends out a cooking insert once a month. I peruse them for recipes and stuff.

I was looking at a chimichuri (sp?) recipe -I'll get it later and post the it later- It's an olive oil based sauce/marinade that rocks my world.

You can use it on meet to prep it, after you cook the meat or as a bread spread. If you toast a hard crusty bread and spread this on it you will be hooked, I'd compare is to an oily pesto!

Oh, I watched another small part of AB's Eating on Waves and found again that I have some strange eating habits.

My mom always taught me that I should...(these are buffett rules!)

Never put a spoon you have shoved in your mouth back into a community plate.

Serve yourself from the sides of a community plate,

Serve yourself from a larger plate into YOUR plate as opposed to going down the line tasting every plate (with the same spoon)

For new food you have never tasted before, take a small portion so it you don't like it .......you won't waste food.

Brown was standing behind a woman who ran/had something going called, LoLo's? He was tasting from a bunch of plates lined up, all had a different dish on them. he repeatedly shoved the spoon he was using into different dishes and at one point, reached over one dish to serve himself from the side farthest away-So. if the dish was a clock face, he stood at the 6 o'clock position reached over and took a spoonful from 12 and brought it back over the plate to his mouth.

Yech.

I drop stuff on my stove top and will eat it. I taste and cook with one spoon, when I cook for myself. But why are people, who are schooled in cooking/food prep/sanitary techniques, have no manners when it comes to serving/eating?

The other thing that I won't do is have anyone feed me with their utensils.
If we are eating a meal in public and someone offers me a taste of their meal I always have them use their spoon to put the food on the palm of my hand or on my dish.

If it's someone I swap saliva with then all bets are off!

If Guy Fieri showed up at my table and tried to snake a bite off of my plate, he'd have to pull the fork outta his hand.....


I have to laugh at myself sometimes....I'll get grossed out when I see someone on the FN do something nasty with food and don't even stick around to see the end of the program!

Only once in my life have I ever had someone take food off my plate - we were at the wedding of a mutual friend, standing around at the reception. We all had little plates of food. This guy just reached over and snagged food off my plate with this fork. I was completely appalled, but thankfully kept my composure: the bride was having a stressful enough day, and I didn't need to add to it by causing a scene. But I never thought of that guy again without cringing!

I had friends over for Thanskgiving dinner a couple of years ago, placed the turkey in the middle of the dining table and before we all were even seated, one of my guests reached over, snapped off both the turkey wings and slapped them on her plate! I was so shocked, I was speechless! She and I are no longer friends. (not because of that)

In our huge family we would always defer to mom and dad. THey were dark meat fiends and they had the dibs on the drumsticks! We knew not to mess with them!

I told the story about the woman in our office who HAD TO BE FIRST to serve herself at the pot lucks we would have.

She'd raise a huge stink about how she didn't like to go to a plate that someone had served themselves out of. She also had the habit of starting a task when she knew we were waiting on her-she was a selfish person and a jerk.

One time, just to be spiteful, I went ahead and served myself first. ;)

Do you think that stopped her from eating and complaining?

It's some idiot with a headband. All the contestants seem to be from the UK. Anyway, I've been watching the last 5 or 6 episodes and I have a question.

Paul Young was one of the chefs who was eliminated. He bears an uncanny resemblance to the singer. Is he one and the same? You know "Everytime you go away" ??????

Richard, do you ever watch America's Test Kitchen on PBS? It can be a bit dry, but it is a worthwhile 30 minutes of tv. I am on their mailing list and get kitchen tips from them all the time, some of them quite good! I am also on their recipe testing list, but I have yet to test a recipe! :o On that show, they do have a segment, every time, on testing kitchen utensils or appliances, as well as different food products, ranging from very expensive, to quite inexpensive. The results are sometimes amazing! And the recipes they work to make easier and enhance flavor are usually quite simple and good.

I do like the blandness! I like that the food is the star, not the "I made this for my husband and he proceeded to lick the plate afterwards" stories you get from on the FC.

Did you ever see the episode where they tasted olive oil? 50 bucks a liter? Geez, cook or use it as a facial? I like the cooks and the dude is a riot. I like when he whines about spicy foods!

I also watch the the other PBS program-the Martha Stewart produced offering with the four different gals that do a segment for each show. It's almost 'Cooking with the Stepford Wives'. Like you said, dry but with just the right amount of info, cooking and personality!

I missed the olive oil episode. I would have remembered that for sure!

Christopher Kimball sends out an email about once/month and I am always interested in the happenings in Vermont, especially when the maple syrup is flowing. I've never leaped off and bought any, but one day I will!

I'll have to expand my PBS viewing to catch other cooking shows. My husband loves to watch that BBQ guy when he comes on. I don't turn on the tv much, to tell you the truth, even though we have one in every room of this house! :o I still watch FN a lot. We don't get Martha's Fine Living network on our cable that I know of. And I have to tell you, I still love Guy, even if he grosses you out! He entertained me through my recovery from my neck surgery, earlier this year. Those diners he visits are amazing to me, even if I would be 500 pounds if I visited all of them!!! :D

I like the restaurants, especially the BBQ places, but it's his manners tha bug me. My parents taught us to be respectful in the kitchen -no games, flipping utensils and or acting up....It's just me anyway.


PBS has many good cooking shows, especially on the weekends! Check them out.

U had a good laugh a few minutes ago.

I flipped by the FC and saw another 'special' with AB. It's a "Best of" type program. Bum Appetit looked for the best places to eat.

AB is the host and Andrew Knowitall is the mouthpiece describing the restaurants and what they offer.

One pizza place serves pies with raw eggs on them and you can look around and see HOLLYWOOD STARS! IT's also co-owned by Mario B. I wonder if that had anything to do with it's selection?

AK also gave his spin on a steakhouse picked as one of the top three.
He said something about being able to pick a piece of meat at this eatery, they cook it for you and when they serve it, "IT TASTES LIKE STEAK".

That is culinary genius, imagine making a steak taste like steak!:D

I have to say that Feasting on Waves was one of the most awesome series I've ever seen on tv.
What a cool show. Their journey was amazing. I loved seeing all the island people and learning what their native foods are. The underwater scenes were just incredible. Kudos to FN for doing a stellar job. I'm really sad to see it come to an end tonight.:)

Has anyone seen the Chef Jeff program?

I watched the set up for the series a few days ago. I have to admit that I was impressed by his story. He seemed to be really humble about being able to go from a prison to becoming a chef-I didn't see why or what he went to jail for-only that he made it out and was trying to teach people how to get ahead thru cooking.

I did tune into the the premiere of the show and was a little taken back by the small part I saw. I tuned in as they went to feed the crew of the Genera; Hosp soap opera.

I didn't get it. I understand the pressire of cooking as a job/vocation, but is it a contest? A school? I'll have to watch it from the beginning to see.

I was a little turned off about the way the cooks were after each other. There were two guys that were mad dogging eah other-the one made a statement about if he was alone with the other guy he thought they would have fought it out.

And I also was a little confused about CJ's attitude toward his charges and the way he gave them instructions on how to prepare they food.....

Did the NTFNS's show run it's course?
I really haven't watched any of the FN lately-I have looked for something new and haven't seen anything that interests me.

There was a huge push for new shows and then nothing. I have noticed that the new shows are just the regulars cooking with family or people who have sent in recipes....even then the shows are kinda lame.

I saw "Chef Jeff" and really liked it. If they each get through the program successfully they will go on to cooking school. 3 of the 6 don't have a high school diploma or GED so they must get that in order to enter the culinary studies program.

I didn't see any episodes of "Big Daddy's Kitchen". Apparently Aaron is still with FN, though because I saw him in a promo spot for their new line-up.

I am watching the first episode of Chef Jeff - seems like a good idea. He's opening a new restaurant, and hires 6 "kids" ranging in age from 18-24, who are "at-risk" - either have done jail time, sold drugs, used drugs, or gotten into other trouble. If they make it through the program they get a 2-year scholarship to go to culinary school.
