The Last Samurai. Not a fan of Tom Cruise but this is an excelent flic.
"Harvey" a wonderful feel good movie starring Jimmy Stewart made in 1950. Recommended.
Stewart was one of my favorite stars and his best friend Henry Fonda is right there with him as another favorite.
Wolverine and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsoians.. wow, two great movies in the last month!!
I can't wait to see "The Hangover." We may go tonight. :)
"Cold Mountain" I thought this was an excellent movie.
saving private ryan....wow

I love the area around Cold Mountain. Pisgah National Forest was one of my all time favorite Mnt Bike destinations. The riding there was unreal. The Biltmore in Ashville is a must see if in the area. The Blue Ridge in that area is very beautiful. I lived in the Blue Ridge up in Virginia on 3 separate occasions but it can't compare to the area around Cold Mountain/Pisgah.Quote:
My dads last house was across the valley from Cold Mountain, or so he says. I was only there once.
Asheville, NC. is where my dad lived before moving to SC.
i had never seen the whole movie before, just the last 30 minutes, and when i saw the scene with the typist catching the names, just one small job being done well, and with concern by an anonymous typist....wow. the scene with the car making the long dusty drive past a iowa corn field, and the mother opening her front door....it made me weep. so when i understood what the 'steamboat willie' character stood for, i was amazed by the ...quality of the story and acting. my late almost father in law was a paratrooper, and while he was delighted to talk to me, someone new about his stories, there were times when his face closed off, and he went back. that movie should make you cry.
Benjamin Buttons. Forrest Gump in reverse. Yawn. 1 3/4 hours too long.
"New in town" Renee Zelleger, Harry Connick Jr. Funnah, I Haven't had
this good of a laugh in a while.
Netflix description below.
Quote:
The weather isn't the only drastic change for high-paid consultant Lucy Hill (Renée Zellweger) when she's sent from her home base in South Beach, Fla., to a small Minnesota town to improve the productivity of a local manufacturing plant. The town's residents also take some getting used to, especially the ruggedly handsome union boss (Harry Connick Jr.) who's doing his darnedest to make sure that Lucy doesn't cut any jobs.
"He's Just Not That Into You"
My daughter and I watched this on PPV today. I was a little disappointed. With all of the big names in this movie, it just didn't keep my attention. There were too many twisted relationships and it was difficult to follow. A lot of it was old material redone too many times.
Howl's Moving Castle-LOVED IT.It reminded me of Spirited Away.
Atonement-Good but not great.
Breakfest Club-like atonement it was good but not great.
"Catch me if you can". Great movie!
Seven Pounds. Predictable.
I can't believe I spent 10 minutes on Speed Racer. Who ever made that flick was on some drugs.
Harold and Kumar escape from Gitmo.
I stuck with it because TV is my only friend. I thought it would get funny.
Gran Torino, This is another great film with Clint Eastwood.
I saw "Jeremiah Johnson" for a second time. I loved it the first time around and after 35 years it did not lose any appeal. This is a great Redford movie.
"Catch me if you Can" and "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow".
"Australia", It was just Ok for me. Although the scenery was very pretty the story line was reminesant of an old 50's western with a bit of supernatural. I guess in this case it was 50's western meets WW2. I dont care for even the Idea of Nicole Kidman however Jackman was as usual bigger than life. It was also a little long for me. It is rare that I look forward to a movie ending. I had the ending figured out but it seemed that they wanted to drag it out
for effect,and missed their mark.
From 1968 - The Lion in Winter with Katharine Hepburn and Peter O'Toole. Excellent movie - makes me want to read a book about that period in history.
This afternoon, The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3.
Washington and Travolta are wonderful - lots and lots of action.
Frost/Nixon this a very compelling drama directed by Ron Howard.
I highly recommend it. Although it is based on real events it is not a docu-drama. I give it 5++ stars. I have not been drawn into a movie like this in a long time.
Gran Torino and Changeling.
Enjoyed them both.
I think I posted this somewhere on the board months ago. It's such a great memory, I have to post it again.
When I went to see Jeremiah Johnson, I was seeing it at a drive-in in the mountain range where it was filmed in Utah. It was incredible to sit there and know it was filmed a short distance away.:) Those mountains are incredibly beautiful.
Has anybody seen Paul Blart-Mall Cop? I'm in love with Kevin James so my son bought me the DVD. It was cute.:)
Gran Torino, very good flic.
I saw The Illusionist for the first time yesterday. It was really good!
Dragonfly With kevin Costner. Very good movie.
I recently saw "Rachel Getting Married" with Anne Hathaway. It was good but I found parts of it really long and I found some of the scripts choices really distracting and weird, and I focused so much on wondering why they would choose that, I didn't pay as much attention to the story.
I saw "Slumdog Millionaire" and found it predictable and not worth the hype at all.
"The Wrestler" was AMAZING and I loved it, but that could be because my uncle used to be a wrestler (Moondog Moretti or Eddie Moretti depending on the year) and did a lot of community wrestling and I know the movie was really important to him.
EVERYONE should go see "UP" - I have seen it in theatre twice and already want to go back. It has so many levels. It's great for kids but there is enough adult humour for everyone to enjoy it. It actually made me laugh out loud both times I saw it. I can't wait to own it. I also found it to be a tear jerker. It's not sad, but it's really touching. Go see it!!!!! :p
Yes Man If you are a Jim Carrey fan you will enjoy this comedy.
I enjoyed it. I needed a good laugh today.
Brazil, Jeepers Creepers, currently working through the first season of OZ.
I left the room about halfway through, and just kinda half-listened to the rest. It just seemed too awfully depressing, and I wasn't in the mood for it. Thought it'd be more about the car ;) . Sometimes I don't need reminding that life can be sad.
Paul liked it - he watched the whole thing, but did admit it was depressing.
I like Redbox - I don't feel nearly as bad walking out halfway through a movie I paid a dollar to rent as I would a ten-dollar theater ticket.
I loved Gran Torino, I love Clint Eastwood and yes it was depressing.
I watched My big fat greek wedding last night for probably the fourth time, that movie is hysterical!
I am so ticked off at the moment.
I got 'No Country for Old Men'.
Like WTF was that all about? That movie really sucked-I sat down and watched the whole thing waiting for the final shootout/resolution and Tommy Lee Jones let me down.
I went to sleep ticked off and here I am 3.5 hours later-I woke up to use the can and I am still ticked off.
I ABHOR movies that I have to watch over again to figure them out. I should have known something was up when they guy opened up the stachel, say the money and the giant kangaroo bit him in the ankle.
I put the kangaroo in just in case I missed that part!

Does anyone watch Curb Your Enthusiasm?
I love that program-Some of the things that Larry David thinks about makes me laugh. I love Cheryl Himes and Susie Essman, the woman who plays Jeff's wife on the series makes me laugh when I see her.
She is probably the funniest "biatch" on all of TV, especially when she runs her mouth when she goes toe to toe with LD.:D
