Congratulations - job well done http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/March16th/WE.gif
Great job!
Sounds like she is quite a "feral" type, from the fact that she was 'loud' as you put it. She needs LOTS of time to adjust. She is used to big wide open spaces. A ceiling is a HUGE concern for her just now, as are walls. I would take it very slowly in allowing her out of that room.
A true feral does not understand windows, and will throw themselves at the glass, thinking it is "outside." She doesn't sound like she is that wild.
Remember, she is not just adjusting to a new house, but rather to the fact of ANY house. Sights, sounds, smells as all new to her. Routine will help her a LOT, if you can go in a set times to feed, fill water, scoop litter box, sit and talk to her or just sit and read in there.
This is not like bringing a cat from someone else's house to your house; she is not used to be IN anything. It will take her time. I know, she was in the garage; it is very different, from a cat's point of view.
And once you do let her out into the house, she may well be intent on escape, so watch your doors to the outside. Don't leave a door open while you bring groceries in from the car.
She needs TIME to adjust to all this.
Hallelujah! Welcome home, Baby! :love::love::love::love::love::love:
Welcome home, Baby! :love::love::love:
Freedom, Oscar was like that when I first got him. He had been tamed with almost a year of work from the boarding kennel owner, then put in a carrier and taken to the vet, then back at the boarding kennel in a room. At least, with the linoleum type floor, he figured out the litter box in no time. :)
I had everything set up in one room in the house, my bedroom. Even though he knew me and was huggable and pettable, as soon as I opened the carrier door, he bolted behind the bed where the baseboard heater was. Poor guy had half himself up on the heater and his other legs on the floor!
I moved the bed and spent time with him. By 5 am the following morning, he was muttering...and I noticed his food dish was empty. He adjusted well after that!:D
At least Baby knows her Meowmie, and that will help a lot.
That's the strongest thing I do have going for me now. I know it will take
time for her to adjust to house sounds & smells, let alone other cats. I've got
her set up in a puppy cage that it partaally covered by a sheet. Sort of like a
little cave.
The other cats are putting their paws under the door & very curious as to
what is going on, but I think I'll let Baby settle in a while before I let them
meet her. The meeting will take place with Baby safe inside the cage to prevent
any injuries, although I don't forsee any fuss beyond the usual
hissing & stuff when strange cats meet. (Knock wood) :)
Well done! Thank you for your persistence - this little cat is starting not just a new year, but a new, healthy, happy life.
Love, Columbine
There is a special place in Heaven reserved for you for helping this little furbaby and taking her in from the cold.
Awww! I just read this whole thread and when I saw you post the big "YES" I was so so happy and relieved! When a kitty is lifting her paw because it's cold....then you know it's REALLY cold! I'm so glad you got her in! I know alot of cats live outdoors happily, but from my experience cats just love love love the indoors. They will live like true royalty if they can :P
I hope BK adjusts quickly and can meet the other kitties soon :)
great job!!!!!
I did it for selfish reasons too, she is such a sweet little thing with a tiny
little soft squeek she greets me with.:D She has been so alone since Momma
Kitty passed away.:(
She did great last night. Ate her supper & used the litter tray I put in
the cage for her.:) I let one of the cats follow me into her room this morning
to change her litter box & feed her breakfast. She perked right up and put
her nose to the bars to touch noses with Joey. Then she stretched out & put
her paw through the bars to touch him. Joey was amazed & so was I. Baby
isn't at all afraid of him. :)
The other cats came close enough to sniff her, but then left to go sun
themselves in the kitchen upstairs. Baby greeted each one with a tiny
squeek & a stretched out paw. They aren't quite sure what to make of
her yet, but I think it's going pretty well so far. (Knock wood):)
Liz, this is wonderful news! I'm glad you were so persistent and managed to get her inside to a life in luxury. :) It also seems that she will get along quite well with the others.
Well done!
Do we dare ask for any pictures yet - pretty please :)
This is such great news! What a fantastic start to 2011.
