Had it with the Food Channel...

Why do some of the soundtracks/theme music for the TVFN shows sound like bad porn music?

The RR intro theme to 30 mninute meals makes me want to scream....If I am flipping thru the channels and hear it I cringe!

Don't ask me why I think this.

I saw the previews and they is a gal that takes a header in the kitchen....

If I were to enter one of these things - that would be me. Maybe SHE had half her sense of balance surgically removed, too, and we'll get a nice PSA on hidden disabilities? Or maybe, like me prior to said surgery, she is just a klutz anyway.

Did anyone see Paula's Party last night? Rosie O'Donnell was her guest--at least at the beginning, I had to turn the channel. Paula was acting ridiculous and Rosie was acting worse than usual. The two of them together was more than I could take. It was obnoxious.:eek:

How can they judge a signature dish cooked in a half hour? Oh, I forgot, the Terrorist rachael ray can do it!

I failed the test....It takes me at least four hours to think about my signature dish.

I wouldn't even begin to know what my "signature dish" is - maybe my cookies, but I doubt that would count ... there'd have to be a "signature dish" in each category. But that's why I could never be on one of those shows.

I did guffaw at the "Lisa" creature looking down at Alton Brown, and then everyone else, when they "didn't get" her highfallutin' beauty-pageant-ish speech about what her "personal touch" is. Honey, if they, the people who actually make their living explaining food to the rest of us don't "get it" the problem isn't with them. It's you. I felt like quoting my mother at her, only this is usually said to a tantruming child "Honey, it's okay. You're all right, the world's all wrong," and leading her off stage. She doesn't understand that for the most part, no one cares that she can cook wearing high heels, but I'd love to be her podiatrist in a few years ... or orthopedist, when she destroys a knee by slipping on some kitchen spill in 4-inch heels ...

My sentiments exactly for everything said!! PD looked like she was wasted on that show. That is the ugliest wig I've ever seen. I was pretty sure we were about to see Paula and Rosie fall on the floor together. They were acting insane. PD has some real nasty habits. I'm always surprised that she finds so many men in the audience to go along with her raunchy shenanigans.

NFNS: Giada was obviously having a bad day??:eek: She seems to have a real superior attitude during these events for some reason.

Who is it that falls in the kitchen? Which contestant? It looks like Lisa. I'm hoping she's gone asap. Not one of my favorites. What does community outreach have to do with gourmet cooking?

What can anybody cook in 30 minutes for real? I couldn't get over it. Nothing would get done. RR just looks like she's doing it in 30 minutes. We know better.

I have to admit that it's good entertainment for me. Watching those people scrambling to create something decent, within the guidelines, can be pretty tedious.

Good call on the woman they booted off. She was nothing but depressing. And....she's a comedian??

I went to my mom's house and she was watching How To Boil Water.

Florence was cooking a chicken dish. He prepped the meat on a cutting board.

He wipes it down with a dish towel after he clears it off. He makes the obligatory, "wash your hands after touching poultry", goes to the sink, washes his hands, goes back to the cutting board and dries his hands on the towel he used to wipe the board down.


DUDE, you just recontaminated your hands!:eek:

Why do I torture myself by watching Paula's Party??? It seems to be the only thing on. Rauchy raunchy raunchy. I think she successfully terrified the guests on last night's show. Poor Joe Nichols and Dionne(spelling?)Sanders. Those guys didn't know what to do. They were a couple of nervous wrecks. When she made DS eat that raw oyster, I lost it. ~~FLIP THE CHANNEL~~

I tend to turn the channel especially when the chefs do anything with the public. The TF 'visit good looking women at home show' is another winner.

There should be some kind of '5 foot rule for him'. The better looking the woiman, the farther he has to be from them.;)

I remember seeing one Emeril show where he was cooking seafood. This happened when he had the people sitting around the prep/cook area.

(Wow, about seven years ago!)

He would give out the plates to the people at the 'bar' to share with the rest of the audience behind them. He split a lobster and gave it to a couple to sample, he went off to cook something else, then came back later to see how the dish went over with the group in that section. He said something like, "How did everyone like it?'.then stopped because he noticed that the plate never left the couple. they scarfed down the whole thing themseleves.:eek: He made a comment like, "We'll never know!" and went on to another dish.

The other EL thing I don't care for is when he has a recipe's author in the audience and while he cooks their dish, he makes changes in it, You can see 'the love' on their faces when he puts his spin on the recipe!:)

That was the black, bald headed guy. Dionne Sanders. He's the guy that played football and baseball at the same time. He and his gorgeous wife have about 5 or 6 kids. His wife is stunning. Paula was putting her hands all over him and I'm pretty sure his wife told her, "That's enough!". Can't blame her. I wouldn't want anybody's hands all over my man either.

Now, I'm watching for snafus on these shows. I love it!!

How did you like last night's NFNS? Raw eggs? Are they kidding? The way the fella had to carve them apart, couldn't he tell? I think they looked raw. That bald black guy is pretty loud and bossy. I'm not really sure why they booted the romantic guy off instead of the Indian girl that walked out. I didn't see anything much wrong with the guy that was kicked out. He was kinda cute and had a pretty good theme, in my opinion. As far as I'm concerned, he was talking about romantic things. However, Bobby Flay didn't agree.

Could that show be fixed?? No way!! :rolleyes:

check it out! If you go back and watch the last ten minutes of the show, Tuschman gave it away. If you watch any other cooking show you would see the judges come down hard on any one that was a 'one dish cook'.

When Nipa walks out and comes back in he makes a statement like 'We are looking for cooks like you because we don't have anyone who cooks Indian."
I am paraphrasing because I don't remember exactly what he said and it was an obvious vote for her to stay. I think the FC is bending to become politically correct.

IF raw eggs had been served in Top Chef or Hell's Kitchen what to you think would have happened? I think that martial law would have been ordered. He would have been out on his wallet(I like to think Gordon Ramsey would have broken his eardrum too!). What's worse? A case of salmonella or a little chili on your meat?

I had to laugh when the woman judge got a piece of the rawness. DUDE, CAN'T YOU SEE WHAT YOU ARE EATING?

I think Booby Flake DIDN'T like the guy they tossed out because HE is the sophisticated "food romantic" of the channel. He obviously doesn't get the food/romance connection that the guy was trying to project-hard to do when you are a narcissist!

With BF as the host and judge I think that the winner will be a woman.

Overall, I find that the challenge prep times are way too short. Who cooks in one half hour? Who cooks on a train? who wakes up at three in the morning to go shopping?

How can cooking like a maniac prepare you for having all day to do a 30 minute show? Other than Booby Flake cooking Iron Chef and ALWAYS WINNING with chipotle, mango salsa and honey, "to balance the dish", I just don't see it.

The TVFN contract that the winner gets is only good for 6 shows.

I guess they reserve the right to get rid of the duds-but keep people like Guy.

That dude is an effing slob. I tuned in to see who was on and saw him eating a sandwich/burger. The cook asked him if he was, "Going to save me a bite!".

GF took the sandwich, wiped it all over his face and then tried to hand it to the cook.

In another preview to his show he has this enormous sandwich in his hands, takes three bites of it a once and pulls it away from his pie hole. He's got all kinds of crap on his face.

Growing up we would have been slapped into the year 2050 if we were acting stupid like that. I guess you can play with food when you don't have to pay for it.


I am waiting for the appearance of RR and her stupidity on the show!:confused:

I was kinda surprised at Tuschman's speech too. This is exactly what Amy Findlay did. Well.....almost. She proclaimed that she didn't want to be there anymore and won the contest. Is Nipa going to be the winner? Since when did they abandon the diverse cook idea? Why do these people keep contradicting themselves?

Booby Flake lol lol lol Great name for him!! Too much competition in the romantic fella. Not only did he tell him he didn't beleive in his style, he booted him out the door. Booby is a network pioneer almost. No way can anybody upstage him.

That raw egg thing was a total joke. What was the judge looking at when she plopped the slimy mess into her mouth? I saw a piece on her tongue and thought I was going to lose it. Gross!!!! I know everybody had to see it. Wouldn't a chef have some idea as to how long an egg should be cooked before serving it? Apparently not??

So far, I find the challenges pretty dumb but entertaining to see just how much they can mess up. 30 minutes for prep time is almost impossible. You're right. It's totally unrealistic to what the network needs. If the chefs don't entertain me for 30 minutes to an hour, I turn the channel. Amy Findlay had no appeal at all--no wonder she's gone. They have 30 people in the background preparing everything for them so why is this such a focus in the contest? Makes no sense.

Personality, knowledge, performing in front of a camera, are what it's going to take. Who knows if those dishes they prepare are even edible? They may look great but nobody can convince me that every single dish prepared on every single show is absolutely delicious. In my opinion, most of them are half cooked. Booby Flake is a master of raw chicken.

Guy Fieri: Holy Cow!! I could write a book on that guy. His cholesterol must be 435, triglycerides 1002. He eats like he has a garbage can behind his mouth. He is a slob and some of his handling techniques in the mom and pop restaurants is despicable. He actually cooks and serves food to people:eek::eek::eek:

Let's look forward to more stellar performances from some of the network's brightest stars. Can't wait!!!

Why? Apparently somewhere he had some kind of job doing Princess Di's wedding. The problem come up with her cake. My pal told me that he claimed to have baked it-but, he may have just been a sous chef on the job.


If you look at his creds for the opening segments one set of shows claim that he cooked for three presidents, then another set of shows claim four presidents.

I watched Dinner Impossible last night and was torn between not liking Irvine.and felling sorry for him. But then I started to laugh and thought about Marc Summers and Boob Tooshman! SUCKERS!!!!!!

With the Martha Stewart Machine showing up more and more on on TVFN I can't help but wonder if she has anything to do with the tightening up the screening of the people on the shows?

It really hurts Summers because it's HIS production company- He produces the programs and then sells them to TVFN. It's like the Alton Brown confession. I always thought he had some kind of Chem/Food prep schooling.

Nope. I can read from a script and act out food skits. No, I don't have a banana dance!:eek::confused::rolleyes:

He fell outta favor for me. I know it's hard to get ideas for so many programs, but to make it sound like you are the main brain, that bugs!

It's described as "Good Eats, Mythbusters" and another show I can't remember.

I saw Ted Allen walking down Hollywood Blvd a few months ago. He knows he's TA and he walks like it too! Hard to miss.....

He's gonna do stuff like finding out if an apple a day, does keep the doctor away and how long chewing gum takes to digest....:confused:

How does salmonella get into the food chain.
Why I only get two pickle chips in my Big Mac.
How to get food into Darfur.

You know, real stories about food and how to keep people from starving!

Lisa is pretty emotional. I respect Mothra for being so successful but I can't see crying over meeting her. I think other additional emotions brought out the waterworks. I see now that she takes a pretty bad fall on the next show. She gets up with food all over her face. It looks brutal and so does she. The average person probably would have gotten badly hurt in such an accident.
I don't know if she can hold up or not. It seems to me that we have enough women on Food Network. Do we really need another one? It might be time for something a little different.

What is the deal with their fixation with the 30 minute time frame?

Why are they fricking rude? And what is it with their bipolarity?
I don't think that they know why they are there and it shows as they keep changing the criteria.
They want bubbly, but think the contestants are fake? They need look no farther than the on air bozos they have on now.

I have to laugh at Danny Boome....Too many slapshots to the skull, Sunny Anderson licking her fingers while cooking and all the rest of the regular fare.

Their confused and contradictory comments just reinforce my idea that running a food channel and judging talent do not go hand in hand!

Mothra Stewart rarely eats Sloppy Joes.

And probably has never used too little toilet paper in her life.

During last night's show she showed that she is the Queen of All That is Perfect When It Comes to the Kitchen. She looked like she floated over the floor and treated the contestants with all the dignity of a piece of poop picked up in a dog run.

She could not have been bothered by what the cooks showed her and if she 'was' interested she gave them a little eye contact, "Are you kidding me? You brought me here for THIS?"

I did feel sorry for you Mothra when you went to jail, It must have been painful to have to talk to the little people-you know, the ones that eat sloppy joes, drink coffee stored in a can and eat danish, bought at a gas station mini mart and wrapped in cellophane.


Oh, LOLOLOLOLOL, she probably ate a sloppy for the first time, and once a week thereafter, when she went to the clink. A subtle reminder that you thought what you did with your stocks still wasn't wrong. Cross me off your Christmas list, will ya?


I loved the Booby Fake comment about stealing the recipe to put on his restaurant menu......Struggling to get more ideas, eh?

My prediction?

Some lawyer is out there and will soon file a 'Intellectual Property' lawsuit on behalf of a contestant when these recipes show up in a TVFN cook's eatery....

Time to go eat some breakfast, I got 30 minutes to come up with my signature bowl of cereal and toast.....with a twist, of course!

Did anybody see the episode that was on yesterday of Everyday Italian? This is the one that Giada has a friend of her's there and she's teaching her to cook for her inlaws.

Giada treated the woman like an imbecile!! I honestly think she was embarrassed by the way Giada treated her. Giada was making a big deal if the girl knew what a spoon was. It was over the top. Hey Giada!! You're not the only person that can throw some pasta together.

Speaking of pasta, I think Giada puts way too much pasta water in her pasta dishes. Normally, the pasta is floating. Is that appetizing? Why water down the sauce?

Obviously, the 30 minute time limit is too strict. Especially when you have a woman fall face first on the set. Not a pretty picture. Perhaps her lawyer has stepped up and he will ultimately demand a win for her.

He's a Denver Broncos fan that would show up to the football games dressed like that. He came to the El Lay Coliseum while the Raider's played there. He had to be escorted out of the stands.....It was brutal.

I was sitting there watching Nascar myself, at a family get together. I see Guy Fieri on the tv set cooking meat!!! Holy cow!! Can we go anywhere without seeing him?? To make it worse......I was at my Son's house and he has one of those HD 300 inch screens.:eek: Guy looked scary with his new blonde/dark beard scheme. Where does he buy all those shirts?

Tonight is the night that Lisa gets up with food all over her face. It should be memorable.:rolleyes:

This morning I make breakfast in a Target tank top, some shorts from a sporting goods store and my birkies...

I think that was a total of 25-30 dollars for my whole outfit.

I had to laugh at the 300 dollar shirt and the Gucci shoes. If I don't spill on myself, I haven't cooked. There is something "not right" with her.....something under the surface.

Now, who in their right mind goes to the fridge, pulls out a piece of fish and then gets out a jar of grape jelly, cherrios or marshmallow cream to cook with it?

I really love the fact that the judges are insulted about the taste of the dishes.

Everyone knows fish and anything gawdawful sweet isn't good.

I had to laugh at the "one minute" food prep tip.

I laughed even harder at their critique of the kid that tripped into the eating area.

The have a guy that literally shoves food into his face and has no manners at all, a woman who talks and acts like a baby while she cooks and a hubby and wife team who should give up cooking and open a massage parlor.

IT is a train wreck, with an explosion, dam collapse and tidal wave...and I can't take my eyes off of it!;)


The network is really taking advantage of these people.

Yeah, you're COOKING in a $300 shirt? Hello? Yes, honey, we know you're here to be a TV star, but save the expensive outfits for the judging room! If you wanna wear it to give your presentation, keep it aside, and plan an extra 30 seconds off your cook time to change your outfit!

But she came off a whole lot better when she had to give up on being "perfect" - far less grating on the nerves.

Not surprised at who went home ...

I thought that Adam's planned pratfall was not nearly as funny as he did, and seeing him struggle with a room of straight faces looking back at him was even sadder.

You know.....I didn't even notice them, I was blown away by Nicky Blonsky and her singing the Nat'l. Anthem- She was very good!:)

Why would you go into a cooking contest with little or no experience with seafood?

I knew a gal I worked with that would not touch raw hamburgers-that used to make me laugh- but the fish thing with Nipa was hilarious.

I just saw "secrets of a chef" or whatever that train wreck was.

I think the gal who stars in the show is one of the sous chefs on the Iron Chef shows.


I wasn't impressed.


She had Fieri's hair, Giada's charm, RR's getting-the-plane-to-the-terminal hand shakes and Aloton Brown's charm.

At one point she referred to the food at the bottom of pan that she browned as CRUD.

No wonder they are looking for the NFNS, the people they have on now are pathetic.

I see the Neely's are taking a car trip......Probably to get away from having to feed the clan every Sunday.....And really, how many BBQ recipes can you do?

It's now two weeks later and the Lisa creature is still there. I hate to admit this, but she is starting to grow on me. Jennifer was eliminated last night and I was not surprised. I am rooting for Shane and Kelsey, though. Lisa is too much like last year's winner (Amy).

I had to laugh at the 90 second presentation of a meal that you didn't cook!

The 'judges' kept insisting that the presenter had to "take ownership" of the plate. How do you do that if you don't know what the F it is?

Udon noodles? Spaghetti? Whatever.....Here's a hint for the FN....try to give us a recipe where you can substitute foods. I am sure that udon noodles aren't too far off from any long flat noodles. You could put s on a shingle and serve it to me -I'm glad you thought enough of me to cook me a meal.

I still do not understand the challenges of trying to cook a 4 hour meal in 15 minutes- Turducken in 45 minutes? I start planning my Thanksgiving spread in mid October. It's patently unfair to expect someone to cook and impress you with a 45 minute meal-for me a 45 minute meal is usually a trip to McDonald's.

The snobbery and jabs are so over the top it's not funny. The long haired moron, Andrew Knowitall is the worst of the worst. How can a food "critic" possibly know anything about cooking? He just tastes stuff and compares it to the city/country where he ate it and how much better it tasted there.

Lisa is a princess and the kind of person that lines up all the pot handles on the stove so they look uniform while she cooks! Can you say retentive?;)

IN all the years I have watched TVFN they have never given any kind of shows-besides the Alton-Brown-buy-this-widget-for-150-bucks-to-core-green-apples that show you how to navigate inside a kitchen.

Even me, as a stupid male, know that if you want to open a glass jar you don't bang it on the counter. You grab a butter knife and tap the top at an angle, not straight on, but with a glancing tap. Spin the jar 90 degrees and tap again, four should do it an you don't have to throw away the duck comfit!
