Student Suspended Over Call From Mom In Iraq..

My point in this is that Zero Tolerance rules just create Chaos. Communications for soldiers serving in Iraq is very limited. If the boy was carrying the cell to talk to his mother when she had a chance to call, the school should have made an exception to the policy. If the boy did not inform the school of this, then he was negligent in not doing so. This reminds me of the kid who was suspended for giving Midol to another student, and was suspended because she was in violation of the school's drug policy. There are rules, and then there's just inane BS.

We do not hear about stuff like this until it makes the newspapers.

If it changes the policy to allow kids to get a phone call from parents who are serving, ESPECIALLY IN Iraq and Afghanistan, that is a good thing.

I haven't met or seen a 17 year old kid who has a cell phone who wants to take a call from their parents..;)

From 18 to about 22 I didn't know I had parents. I knew it all and was master of my own destiny.

"Gotting an attitude" is the thing that I do not understand.

Pike made the point that the schools use the 'bad word' rule to make a point....She was home schooled, so how can you make a statement like that?

These days teacher have a precarious job just BEING with kids.

9 times out of 10 the teacher will have their chops busted for 'punishing' kids that are breaking the school policy.

Most of the time the kid skates and the teacher gets their arse kicked for trying.....

Zero tolerance isn't a good thing.....but there are ways of
making exceptions and those exceptions take place when both parties are able to talk about it in a civil and constructive manner.

He admitted to 'gotting an attitude'..When people "got an attititude" with me it usually lets me know that they are gonna fight me every step of the way.


Common courtesy, common respect and following the rules are a fleeting thing these days, It's too bad that accountability is vanishing too.

I went through 7 years of school, public and private, and I've seen enough teacher-student fights to know that schools OVER USE the bad word rule after the teacher overreacted.
