Well after much and much researching today ask julie :D ;) I found that where i bought cami they support puppy mills and they get their puppies from puppy mills... I was appalled when i read this.. i want nothing to do with any pet stores period.. So i was really speechless (ask julie :D ) when cami's parents could have been raised in the puppy mills.. But you're right.. We dont plan on looking for any certain kind of dog anyway.. So i know for a fact when dog number two comes it will not be from any pet store over here! See even look in my siggy.. *AHEM* i searched for them a long time (ask julie LMAO!! :D :) :D :) :D :) :D )

Thank you, Sandra, for posting this. Even though I could not bring myself to watch it today, I know what goes on there. Maybe I will watch it tomorrow. People NEED to know what goes on out there. They really don't know where these dogs come from and what horrible conditions they exist in. All they see is the cute, adorable puppy. When they learn the truth, I think they will never again shop at those pet shops.

In 1984, I bought a dog from a pet shop. I did not know where the dogs came from. I asked and was told it was a breeder in Missouri. I bought Avalanche, my Great Pyrenees. She was stuffed in a little cage and no one was buying her. She was 12 weeks old and growing bigger and bigger. I had never heard of the breed, but I pulled a breed book and read about them. I bought her. She cost over $500 in 1984 (back then, that was a large amount to pay for a dog). I couldn't let her sit in that cage any longer. Stupid me tried to contact the breeder (I sent her a letter) to tell her what a wonderful personality Avalanche had. The breeder never answered me. Avalanche turned out to have poorly shaped legs and eventually had a cruciate ligament rupture. She also had a personality flaw, she did not like all people and was dog aggressive (except for my parent's Great Pyr, Blizzard). If she liked you, you knew it. If she didn't, watch out. However, she loved all children.

I am so glad to have been owned by my beloved Avalanche, no matter where she came from. She was the most loving dog to her family and certain others. However, I do not shop at stores that sell dogs. I will not encourage puppymills. Now I know better.

My sentiments exactly. Boycott all pet stores that sell puppies. Do not buy any food, toys, leashes or anything if the pet store sells puppies. Be very careful of backyard breeders and newspaper ads as well.

Here is Buffalo there is a place that advertises at least 6 or 7 different breeds for sale in a single issue. The ad reads like:

Lab pups, AKC, shots, MC/V, Dan's - XXX-XXXX

Notice there is no address, only a phone number.

It is all about supply and demand - if there is no demand there will be no supply.

I cannot watch that, because it will upset me. I know how much everyone needs to be aware.

We have one pet store in town where puppies and kittens are sold. They are kept in rooms, not cages, but unfortunately in the puppy room, messes aren't always cleaned up right away. I have gone in to see the pups, and mopped the floor myself a few times, because the mop was right there. My friend has called the SPCA on them a number of times, but nothing has happened.
The last time I was there, there was a "breeder" dropping off her litter of boston terriers--I started crying and walked out of the store.
I will never spend a dime there. The owner comes in to the restaurant where I work, but it's not my place to tell him he isn't welcome there, so the best I can do is refuse to wait on him.

In the 6 years I have lived here though, I have seen 2 other shops where puppies were sold go out of business--maybe this one is on it's way.
