What is the deal?

I know what you are talking about but I tend to blame myself for posting something boring or long-winded. I was upset for a little while after I read some posts in a thread that came up a few months ago, can't remember the title, but some old-timers did say they didn't respond to new members. I thought for a few days that I'd just leave the forum and let them revel in their homey atmosphere. Instead, I decided to give myself a role here, that of a newbie responding to other newbie threads - as long as they caught my interest and I had something relevant to say. For instance, I didn't want to see the thread about cats needing help in Bellafonte, PA to disappear and so I've kept posting on it, as has Catty1. It's the kind of topic I find very interesting and I want new member Melissa to feel welcomed and supported.

Some of us very simply don't reply if we don't have anything to add. I read a lot of threads here, but don't post in that many. I just don't think posting to show I read the thread is very important.

I don't know. Before this post, I would get worried when I would post and I didn't get a reply because I would think that maybe nobody cared or whatever I posted about wasn't vital enough. Now, I know that's not the truth. :D

Funny enough, I have gotten so many refreshing perspectives from this post! :D It really does make me feel better. I know I'm overly sensitive about most things but sometimes I feel like I can't help it. Yarrgh!

I would like to go to Texas A&M or Oregon State University or LSU Baton Rouge for veterinary medicine.

I love to help out whenever I can but it becomes frustrating when you attempt to do something and then they kind of second guess you.

I know exactly what you are saying, and have known about it since my first few weeks of Pet Talk. I know that now I get far more response to my posts now than I did when I had only been here a month or two, even though my style of question was generally no different. In a way though, I do not condemn this. People on this board build friendships with other members, and often when a friend posts on a topic, you often feel inclined to post. There is no shame in that. But everyone should give everyone a chance, that way perhaps you will make more friendships! For instance, I remember all the PTers that replied on Zsa-Zsa's thread when she was COTD, so that response really makes an impact.

Seriously, everytime I read one of her posts I tell myself, "that can't be real" - "she can't really be 14". She just sounds too mature and articulate. I think you are really a 45 year old woman living in a 14 year old's body.

When I was 14, I was "like ahh, ahhh... like dude", making fart noises under my armpit and knocking on people's doors and running when they came to answer (good times) - not writing well constructed letters to associate/friends with common interests!!! Heck, I couldn't even find England, Australia, New Zealand (just a few of our Ptrs homes) on a map!!! :D

Very eloquently put, Miss Z! Very true. I've been contemplating possibly sending a nomination in for Soni or Isis to be COTD or Spanky to be DOTD, maybe that would do the trick? I would like to make friends but I suppose that, like everything else, in time, will work itself out. :)

I agree with this so much! I seriously think she is lying to us about her age. Zara, you always use big words I've probably never heard of and seem to have so much knowledge. :)

Anyway, back to the topic of this thread. I seriously don't even have time to reply to most posts anymore. Sometimes I have all day, But now, most of the time, I have less then fifteen minutes, so I only reply to the posts I find nessacary for me to reply to. If someone is asking for help and I don't know how to help, I don't reply because I have nothing to contribute and to help the person/animal involved. This does not mean nobody likes you, because you are a wonderful member to the board and I'm glad you joined. :D

Lizzie, I would really like to see that thread you are referencing. I find that sort of comment from 'old-timers' quite surprising. I count myself among the semi old-timers, and can't think of anyone that I *know* that would have such an attitude, much less display it. So, I would like to see it, if you can find it, and see if perhaps it wasn't misunderstood. I didn't see it, so, I cannot say much (but, why do I go on and on, you might ask?), but, I am sitting here thinking, "surely she took that out of context".
