Duff Goldman picked Chicago's own Gino's East pizza! I've been there! But I"ll probably never get to New York to try the one with the thin cracker crust.

I was torn on the decision between Melissa and Jeffrey and knew I would be happy with either as a winner, as long as it wasn't Katie, Debbie or Michael. LOL!! Or any of the others. :p
The best "stop and scarfs" are stuck in the little corner strip malls.
There is a little fried chicken place about 5 blocks away, I never ate there until a group of Thai, Thais (more than one!) bought it and they started advertising THAI food!
They still keep the Fried Chicken thing going, But as long as the sell Pad Thai?
I am there.
It is true about the crowds........IF you drive by during BF, Lunch or Dinner and you see people around the door?
Crap food restaurants don't stay open long.
http://www.ecorazzi.com/2009/07/27/v...chicken-video/
I came across this site because I heard that GP was cooking meat!
She did a series with Mario Batali and some othe guy where they cooked and ate their way across Spain.
One morning she was at breakfast with MB and she was acting like a real prima donna about what he was eating. She said she was avegan.
I was really surpised to see her cooking chicken!
Because they think it is in tune with the "economic issues" of the day? I watched the first of her shows, and even went and got the recipe for the potato-bacon torte from the website - it is even "Karen safe" - which is a rarity! And the apple granite was very interesting to see done as well - it's just frozen applesauce, and then you run a fork through it to get the grainy texture - looks simple and yummy! (That, I'd just leave the lemon juice out, but apples I am okay with!)
I was wondering what you all were thinking about her show so far. I think I've seen two if there have been two already. She seems nervous but that's to be expected.
That potato torte really looked good.:)
I'm glad they're running the Chefographies again. Alot of them I didn't see.
Oh, I am sure that the eco-times have a huge impact on her show. I was hoping for a show that would fall between the "pan roasted finger potatoes with truffles in a white cream sauce with saffron and foie gras".
I dig the recipes until they get to the "ingredient from Heck" that is either too expensive or only exists in the small specialty shops of New Haven, Conneticut.;)
Flay made some a middle eastern meal the other day and bought some bulgar wheat (I think that is what he bought) along with some other stuff like buckwheat honey? It was a ME market that had TONS of stuff in it, but unless you live in a metro city, where will you find the ingredients? The other thing that had me perplexed was the assortment of the wheat.
Who knew that there are 'grades' of the grean, from 1-5, fine to coarse?

I missed the program -Cooks vs City?
I don't care for Ah-ron -the guy that is a sometimes judge on CHOPPED. Very pretentious. Your name is spelled and pronounced Air-ruhn. I am not a Ricardo, but have no problem people pronouncing it either way.
-------------
I have the TV on in the background and had to shake my head. R Ray was on and made a Pozole Lasagna w/pork.
Hmmm, Pozole is usually a soup made with beef neck bones. So where she came up with that recipe is beyond me. I sure as heck ain't no expert in Mex food and know there is a regional way of prepping meals, but I have to shake my head when I hear some of the names of the dishes and how they take a regular dish and twist it!
Richard, once again, you've hit on the head exactly what I was thinking.
I had a discussion with my sister a couple of days ago about the crazy ingredients on the FN. Some of those things are impossible to find. If they are available, they cost a fortune.
Your pan roasted finger potatoes is a perfect example.:)
Cooks vs. City was pretty ridiculous. It was the two guys against two girls. One of the girls is on the network and the other one is Kelsey, one of the NFNS contestants from the past. They had to work as teams against each other and race to a finish line after completing assigned tasks.
Aaron was pretty humbled down in this show. I don't like his arrogance either but there was something different about him in this setting.
Did anybody watch the premier of Dinner Impossible? The one with the roller derby people. It was all dishes with no utensils allowed. They made the food to kinda serve as utensils itself.
The amount of food he wasted on camera, during that show, could have fed a family of 4 for a month. It was hard to watch.:(
I made up the finger potatoes recipe, Don't try it at home?
I hate watching people wasting food too! THat is another one of my peeves about show, especially Hell's Kitchen.
------------
I was wathching part of the CHEFOGRAPHY about the Food Network- they were talking to the dude on the judge's panel from the NFNS he always sit on the left side of the screen? If you get a rerun, watch it and listen to him gush about the chefs and looking for other "talent".
Some of the Network Star contestants have great ideas for shows, but the network is always right!
I loved the creativity of that made up recipe.:D It's so true!!
I think you're talking about Bob Tuschman(?). I'll try to catch it. I was amazed at watching Giada's. I can't believe how long she knew her husband before they got married. I was shocked that her Grandfather is still alive. Who knew?
I just caught a few minutes of the 10 dollar meal show.
I tried to watch it with a fan's eye.
I just want to say one thing!
A first for any FN program I have watched?
The gal was making a salad and she made a dressing for it, she was adding
the mayo to the bowl where she was mixing it up, took a spoonful of mayo, over estimated and spooned some back into the container!
There was a whole bunch of other stuff-lol, my critical eye- but i was too
fascinated to remember.....
---------------
I muddled thru 5 miuntes of the Brian Boitano show.
Why not have George Foreman do a 'grill' cooking show?
Another train wreck!;)
I watched part of Melissa's new show. She is still very nervous in front of the camera. You're right, Richard, I noticed a ton of errors. I hope she gets better and better because I really like her.:)
I think I mentioned this before but I'll keep saying it. Ace of Cakes:::I can not believe how many times the cake decorators scratch their heads, shake their heads, scratch their skin, right over the cakes!!! It's unbelievably gross. There isn't much sanitary anything going on in there. None of them wear gloves, hairnets, etc. I wonder if they wash their hands after going to the bathroom?
I know, I have to look away myself.
----
Check out the commercials they are running w/AB in them.
He has the funniest hair thing going on. I laugh everytime I see it.
I was watching him make wontons. One of the little 'blurbs' they run before the commercials said that a wonton was the same as a Mex empanada.:confused::rolleyes:
A mex empanada is more of a turnover and is baked in the oven. Not anywhere near a wonton, but, hey!,It is his show?:D
I watched that wonton thing last night too. I said the same thing!! Empanada????? HUH?? I wondered where he got that idea?
I agree!!
Today, I saw Sandra Lee dump a handful of some spice in her hand and it was supposed to be like a teaspoon.:D She discretely dumped the other 40 tablespoons on the counter top.
This is so much fun!!:D :p ;)
That's funny.
For a long time I was 'blinded' from seeing the little things that happen while I was getting the spit off my chin.
The hands, hand washing and other faux pas that take place during the show.
Check this one out.
I also thought of this one while watching SL. They grab cans (RR is another magician when it comes to this trick) off the counters/shelfs and the lids magically open up for them. Dang, if I could get away from opening up cans when I cook, I'd save so much time I could to to Zimbabwe and teach children how to open beer bottles with stones!;)
I have always wanted to be a person that gave back the the world!;)
LOLOLOLOL,
I finally figured it out.
When I was a kid I would watch the serials (episodes) of Flash Gordon.
I was flipping thru the net when I spotted a pic of Ming the Merciless and started to laugh like a maniac!:D
what do you think?;)
lol lol lol
Now we know where we've seen Symon before!! He always tries to look like a warrior.:D
RR-- 30 Minute Meals = Yea, sure, if somebody is doing everything for you and all you have to do is dump the stuff in a pan.
We've never seen that day she brings hime the groceries and supposedly cleans everything before refrigeration. She doesn't tell us that takes the entire weekend.:D Wouldn't we love to see her doing this?
You can watch the chefs spill something over the side of a bowl and in the next scene, it's gone. There are people all over the set acting like slaves. They're probably getting minimum wage and the chefs are living in $5 million dollar homes.
Food Stylists. baby, Food stylists! If you ever get a chance to watch the 'behind the scenes' programs you can see all the different shots needed to make a show. Each scene is outlined, then blocked-they do a run thru of what will be filmed, where the cook will stand, etc., etc., and what angles they need. That is why you see the drips that disappear after certain shots!:D
OOOH Richard! Did you see Chopped the other night? They had a chef that was dipping his spoon continuously and the finally called him on it!!
I did see some bits and pieces of how they make some of the shows. It's amazing how many people it takes to pull off one show. I love to laugh when the stars act like they did everything.
NO
I missed it!
LOL, there are two sets of rules! Home and cooking for 'guests'. At home you can do anything you want. Most of the time we just cook for ourselves and we can dip as much, or little as we want.
I just find that when they -FN-pushes these little tips about chicken safety and washing hands, then you catch some of the chefs doing the exact opposite, I stop and say, "Did I just see that!":D
I especially like the Two Day Recipes!
"You marinate over night - I happen to have a dish I put in the fridge yesterday!!!!";)
I've never noticed that! Eek!
I've been watching a lot of "Throwdown" lately -- is it just me or does that show air often throughout the week? Anyway, I want to know if the people being thrown down aren't in some way tipped off that Bobby and company are going to be crashing their party. If he were throwing me down, I might be pretty p*****ed at him for showing up!
I have watch only a couple of them, and it is usually set up that the person thinks they are going to tape a segment for a cooking show on their "specialty" and BF shows up for it to become a "throwdown." That way they are prepared, have ingredients and everything handy, are ready to explain what they are cooking and how, and aren't freaked out by the camera ...
I think they may be on reruns for the summer season, I don't know, I don't watch it regularly, or have my DVR record it.
I saw whahisname - Tyler Florence do this today.....
He was making something that required some cookies made from pine nuts.
He needs to put the cookies into a bag and crush them for the recipe.
He grabs the bag from the shelf/cabinet, opens it up and pulls one cookie out.
He breaks the cookie in half - as a demonstration - he wipes his left hand on his pants and opens a plastic bag and tosses the cookie halves in.
He reaches over to the cookies, then empties THAT bag into plastic bag and begins to smash the cookies. I sat there for about three minutes trying to figure out why he didn't just empty the cookies into the plastic bag then break one open from that pile. TF has a weird way about him-he talks to the audience like we are stupid.
It was a weird segment and I really couldn't figure out all the drama over busting up cookies!
While watching Tyler Florence, count how many times he says, "absolutely delicious". Another thing: he talks so fast, I hope he doesn't have cardiac arrest some day on set.
Have I ever asked this question? Why does Sandra Lee feel the need to roll her "L's" all the time? It's sounds weird and it seems ridiculous.
Sandra Lee also talks to the audience like we're stupid. It's usually, "I want you to do this and I want you to do that". Thanks Sandra, now I can handle my day.:(
Throwdown is on alot, Elyse. BF is on during the day with his grilling show. I think it's Friday where they have a Throwdown episode. They also show it back to back all the time.
The SL "L" rolling? Yes, noticed that!
All the stars have their own signature phrases-you could almost have a drinking game/contest with each episode!
I am looking forward to the New Iron Chef - I wonder who will be leaving....
And I keep forgetting that the "chairman" is going to do a 'Dancing' show, that should be worth watching!
I can't wait for the new Iron Chef!! I also wondered who is leaving. We hardly ever see Morimoto competing anymore so I'm guessing it's him. Mario Batali, not much either.
What dancing show is the chairman going to? I wonder who will take his spot? How many FN people can do the tricks he does?:D
DUH!!! I figured out where the chairman is going. He is probably a pretty good dancer.:)
http://www.accesshollywood.com/danci..._video_1151657
I don't want to jinx him...
I want to see Chuck Liddell dance and there are some other people I like so I may have to tune in..:rolleyes:;)
Haha, another thread to look at!:D
Booby Flake is a real jerk.
I just tuned into the FN and his show, "Grill It" is on. It the episode about Halibut Steak. He's talking to a woman and he's talking to her about her recipes. He pays her a compliment about her description of her food and he tell her something like "I know you have been there" in regard to her putting flavors together and cooking. She agrees with him and says she likes her food and says, paraphrasing here- "It looks like it."
Did he just make a joke about her weight? his dude us a DB and a pompous arse!
The two latest 'food fads are kalamata (sp) olives and machenga cheese?
Check it out!:D
