Hi all,
I need some advice about my new meezer. I recently adopted a 2 year old girl who was all lovey at the rescue when I was going to meet her:cool:
However:( since I brought her home I can;t get her to come out from under the bed. I know she's been in other parts of the house because there is cat hair where there previously wasn't.
Any suggestions on how to make her transition a little easier?

A new cat may take a little time to get used to a new place. As long as she is eating and using a litter box, just give her some time. Before long I expect you will be typing with one hand and giving pets with the other.

Not all cats will adjust immediately. I have had several just like your new meezer. They hid for weeks when you are "looking" but at times when they feel safer, they roam around to learn their new environment. Do not worry about such behavior. Finding your cat's "weekness" will go a lomg when to winning her love. With most cats it is some type of food. You can coax them out and reward them with their treat. Works great. Also keeping her environment calm and quiet will help her adjust.

When I first adopted Max he literally lived behind the TV for 2 weeks. I assume he came out and explored when I was at work but whenever I was home he hid. Finally, he would sit on the back of the chair but would not let me touch him at all until the end of the 3rd week. It was a long transition for him.
Our oldest made herself at home immediately. Our second oldest hid for some time. She is just not a warm 'person.' She is now 14 and just in the last couple of years has she seemed to be at ease.
Just give her time dear. I've had a cat that hid under a couch for a week when I first brougth him home.
Give the cat alternate nice comfy and private places to sleep, with in her sight so she knows they are there.
Put food and water at the edge of the bed, to hopefully coax her into coming out into the open more often.
And just hang out near her and talk to her softly is all, just be reassuring, she'll come around.

Your poor Meezer darling must be quite frightened, probably been through an awful ordeal. Kitty just needs some time to adjust, this varies from cat to cat as the others have been saying. My housemate adopted a cat which hid for days, but now is so affectionate that he sleeps on his human's face.
Pixel, on the other hand, needed about 5 second's adjustment time before she was rolling over for scritchies, helping herself to some food, and scampering about.

I'll get some pics up as soon as I can take some. I've noticed her being a little braver, she watched tv with me this afternoon. From under the other couch, but it was the same room, so I'm not complaining.
