View Full Version : My Trevor is at the RB (3/15/93-4/30/08)

I sent the following note to a few of my special PT friends earlier this morning. I didn't want them to have to find out here.

I can't believe I just typed those words. My little orange buddy is with my four poodles now. He grew up with two of them, Ashley and Whitney, so I hope they were right in front to welcome him.

He became acutely ill very suddenly a few days ago most likely as a result of his underlying diabetes. (Not wanting to eat and, when he did eat, throwing it back up). The decision was made to just let him go. He had lived a good life and he was 15 years old and it was time for rest. It reminded me very much of how Ashley's last days were spent (same symptoms, though a different cause).

Andy seemed a little lost without him yesterday and spent even more time in my lap than usual. Little does he know, but it helped me so much to feel him there. We are helping each other. I felt like I had taken away his best friend but I knew it had to be done. Rest in peace my Trevor sweetie. You made cat lovers out of all of us.

Oh Pam, I am so very sorry to read this sad news. :( :( Trevor was one of my favourites on PT, he was one of the first orangies here that caught my attention - such a handsome and sweet boy.

Pam, I know how sad you must feel now, but I hope it is a comfort to you that Trevor had a long wonderful and spoiled life with you, Andy and the doggies - and that he didn't suffer for long. Try to remember the good times and know that he is now resting comfortably at the RB. :)

I love his sweet face in the pictures you posted of him.

Oh Pam, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I am sure that Andy knew that you were sharing his pain, and you both were able to take comfort form each other. He was a handsome boy. The picture of him peeking around the wall made me smile. {{{Hugs}}} to you for being strong enough and loving enough to do what was best for Trevor.

Poem For Cats

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.

Oh Pam, what a shock it was to read that. I'm so sorry that you had to let Trevor go.

Trevor had a great life, but it is just never long enough for us, is it? He looks absolutely adorable in those photos you posted. Another of my favourites was that one where you are wearing him as a hat. What a good boy he was.

Rest in peace Trevor sweetie. You will be sorely missed.

For some reason, a poem like this seems to be a good way to help process the grief. I was intending to search for one for Trevor, but Liz has already found the perfect one. I just wish that Pet Talk had music. Trevor's thread deserves music. Pam already knows how hard this news is hitting me. I shall come back to this thread often to see the notes that others have left for my little cyber nephew. My uncle passed away 9 years ago this week. Many of the flowering trees and shrubs were in bloom. This week too they are in bloom here. Flowers for Trevor.

Sweet orange boy, Trevor dear
You'll be so missed by your people down here
Your sunny disposition sure brightened each day
And you touched many hearts in your own special way

Tread lightly as you arrive at the Rainbow Bridge
On those soft white paws, that many rubs did give
Sweet boy, orange man, you blessed us for fifteen years
And you'll live on in our hearts we know, so forgive us a few tears

Your humans will miss your solid warm, furry presence
But we know you'll still be with them, in their hearts instead
Send your momma some comfort, please, Trevor, sweet boy
A few streaks of orange in a sunset, soon, a little ray of joy

Sweet solid orange boy, Trevor, dear
You'll surely be missed by your people down here.

Thank you so much everybody. The tears come each time I read a post or look at his pictures. He was one of four furbabies in this household but his absence is felt so much today. I know that Andy is grieving too. Trevor was the *head kitty* around here. He didn't do anything to earn that distinction. He just fell into the role naturally. Whenever they were seen snuggling together it was because Trevor had found a cozy spot and then Andy snuggled up next to him. It was never the other way around. Trevor was the leader. He was also such a good boy.

He got into his share of mischief as a kitten of course. He knocked an antique candy dish, given to me by my mother, off a high shelf. We both watched it break into 1,000 pieces. He didn't even run away. :) He also chewed my wicker magazine basket and several cords on my venetian blinds. Oh and yes he also bent several of those blinds with his little kitty teeth. One morning I came downstairs to find that he had gotten into the Dunkin' Donut box and had a cream donut in his mouth. My other two poodles at the time were just standing there waiting for him to drop it, which he had no intention of doing. :) As he grew a little older, around the time that Andy came to live here, he was a totally mellow fellow who didn't let anything bother him. He taught Andy how to behave and that was a really big job since Andy was the real nawtee boy of the two of them. :)

He never minded living with canine siblings. He got along with them all. Nothing stressed or bothered him. I could certainly take a lesson from him. He was honored six years ago as Cat of the Day and it makes me happy to remember that special day. The link is here and it tells a little bit about him that some of you may not know about my special boy.

Pam, I'm so sorry to read about this. Trevor was such a cute boy; what a face he had and, judging from your tribute and what others here on PT had to say about him, he had the personality to match. Rest well, then play hard at the Bridge, Trevor. Peace to you, Pam.

Trevor,

Now that have settled in a bit at the bridge, I bet you are having fun getting reacquainted with Whitney and Ashley. It must be beautiful there, full of sunshine and lots of furry friends that are all now healthy. I grew up with you and you were my first cat. You will always have a special place in my heart. I know mom and Andy will miss you, but hopefully they can rest in knowing that you are free from your illness and you're doing OK. I hope there is a fridge for you to sit on, up at the bridge...I know you loved to be like a lion, and find the highest place of the house to sit on...the fridge was one of your favorite places to be!! :) If not, I am sure you'll find the highest mountain top and are basking in the beautiful sun, maybe even right now! Love you big orangie!! Will see you again someday!

Love,
Robyn

Yes, Trevor, Robyn is so right. The fridge is empty without you. Andy has no reason to go up there any more. There is no one to cuddle with. :( Hopefully in time the empty spot you have left will just be filled with happy memories.

I had a bittersweet moment at the dinner table last night. I told Helen and Scott that my dear friend, Pam, had lost her orange boy, Trevor. And I thought what a sad, sad day for Pam and her family, especially Andy. :( But I also thought, how strange and wonderful that I sit here and tell my family about the loss experienced by someone who I have never seen in person, but whose voice I know like my own, and who I have "loved" as a friend, for over 7 years now. I never will meet Trevor now, but his loss hit me just like the loss of one of my own would. :( But isn't it a wonderful gift we have received, finding friends, all over the world, because of this wonderful community of people, just like ourselves, who laugh when we laugh, cry with us when we are sad, and support us through tough times?

Trevor, you were a wonderful orange boy, and seeing your pictures and being reminded of your story has reminded me just how wonderful you were. :)

We love you, Pam, and just like you've been there for me, I'm right here for you, too. Just wish I could come give you a big hug right now.

Pam, I am so sorry to hear that your sweet Trevor has gone to the Rainbow Bridge.:(
He lived a long and happy life with you and your family.
I remember when I first joined Pet Talk and you posted a story about Trevor throwing up a nice big orange hairball on the kitchen table that you managed to hide from your husband before he sat down for breakfast.:)
When I read that story, I learned that hairballs come in different colors, just like cats. From my experience with a black and white cat, the only hairballs I ever saw were mousy grey ones. I still can picture Trevor's orange hairball on your table and it makes me smile, hopefully it will make you smile too.
Remember the good times you had with him.
Sending hugs your way.

:o :D Thank you for that memory! Yes, I only shared that with immediate family members and, of course, the whole internet via Pet Talk! LOL! Thankfully hubby never reads PT except if I point out a particular post or picture for him. Trevor's little secret will remain a secret. ;) You know looking back on the lives of our pets does give us comfort after they have left us. We are changed because we knew them even if for a short time in the scheme of things.

It hurts like nothing on earth, and you feel such pain inside you feel like it will kill you, but after you've grieved so badly, it'll start to get easier. I still cry about Jack, I kiss his picture goodnight every night, but I try to think of the funny things he did, the happy times we had. You will be this way with Trevor soon...
