I've had guinea pigs on and off for around 17 years, and while they've all had their own personalities, Spud has the biggest character of any guinea pig I've ever met. He's a little live-wire!
I got him back in November 2018, with the idea of bonding him with my other guinea pig, Sprout. Unfortunately, the bonding didn't really work, so they now live in a separated C & C cage. They can interact through the divider though.
Spud doesn't really understand the concept of cuddles yet, and spends most of the time trying to jump off me/the sofa! He's not scared, far from it. He just prefers to spend his time exploring, rather than sitting still. That being said, he does like it if I'm in the room with him, and will come and lick my hands or climb on my arms. Doing zoomies round the room is a favourite pastime of his. As is having a good sniff around. He's quite vocal, and often witters away to himself as he's wandering round.
He's a bit picky with food. He likes celery leaves/carrots and a few other things, but sometimes just takes a bite, then leaves it. Hay is always well received, however.
He's the bravest guinea pig I've ever met. I went to see him at the rescue centre, and he was coming right up to the edge of the pen to have a good sniff at my hand. Once I got him home, I left him to acclimatize for 24 hours, but when I got him out to have his first explore of his new home, he just wandered round. No hiding, no nervousness ... nothing! He was even coming right up to me to have a good sniff.
Honestly, I did think about possibly rehoming him when the bonding with Sprout failed, but I couldn't do it. So he's got a home for life with me now.
