Pumba was the runt of a litter of seven piglets in Abaco, one of the outer islands of the Bahamas. He did not get the right nutrition and was not going to live. A pledge was made on Facebook if somebody would adopt him and I reacted immediately. I told the lady, "If you can get him on a small plane to Nassau (half hour flight) I will get him from the airport." This happened and I named him Pumba. His legs were all deformed and he could hardy walk. he was basically a walking head! Weeks passed and I fed him lots of fruits and veggies and pellets and he grew in the boar he now is! He is so special because when he sees me, he runs to me and he lays down on his side to be rubbed! He's very spoiled. His best buddy is Eddie the sheep, also adopted by me as he was found as an orphan and I adopted him, he was also flown to Nassau from Long Island (Bahamas).
Pumba's personality has come out a lot now. He was very, very shy in the beginning and super scared. With time and plenty of food, he came out of his shell and runs to me or to his caretaker when it is breakfast or lunch time. He loves bread, grapes, tomatoes, carrots, apples etc etc.. He is very. very affectionate towards me. I have a large horse brush that I keep in his outdoor walk in stall and when I go inside he follows me and lays down on his side right away to be brushed. He is very attached to Eddie the sheep. Eddie comes with me around the farm as he things he is a dog! He was raised with dogs only. I have 13 dogs, by the way! Eddie and all my other animals live on my animal sanctuary for unwanted or abandoned animals including oats, sheep, ponies, rabbits, horse, and parrots. He loves his own private swimming pool that he will lounge in for hours to cool off!!
I am also a board member of the Bahamas Humane Society and do all the photography for them on Thursday for the BHS FB page of the adoption animals. It has been amazing documenting and watching him grow and become the handsome boy you see now!
