This
is Butter the Cockatoo! Every morning when I take him out, he expects to
be petted and cuddled. When I got him, all he wanted was to be petted and
held. I probably spoiled him way too much, lol.
He is my first large bird, and the most destructive in the parrot world, and
also the most dusty! He's not the type to go out of his way to try and break
out of the cage, so I lucked out on that!
He is probably the quietest Cockatoo ever, but he's still just a baby, and
nowhere near maturity. His name comes from when you pet him for a while, he
melts all over your lap, like butter! He eats Zupreem pellets mixed with some
very expensive seed!
This is not an easy bird to care for, that's for sure! these parrots can
scream very loud and be heard miles away. I personally have never heard one
scream in real life, so I have no idea.
I got him at an Exotic Bird Fair, for $1200. certainly not the cheapest ever,
but not the most expensive for sure. As for why I got one of the hardest
birds to care for:
1. I like challenges. This is the most challenging you can get with a parrot,
alongside the Moluccan Cockatoo. it is like a three-year-old consumed fourteen Pixie
Stix and a gallon of Kool-Aid running around the house with an X-acto knife
and an air horn. But in parrot form, covered in feathers.
2. They are cute, cuddly, and totally entertaining. If you can stand cleaning
paper at the bottom of the cage every day, with five other birds, then you
deserve a reward. Cockatoos have a sweetness that no other parrot can match. You can't beat that.
That's Butter for ya!
