My
little Latimer is the craziest, funniest and most humanistic animal I've
ever owned. He just turned two years old (hatched on August 20, 2012). He thinks he's
so human. He's totally spoiled rotten and definitely gets his way. He will
run to the middle of his cage every day when I get home and ring his little
bell frantically until I go get him and let him ride around hanging on my
shirt or on my shoulder. He's not very noisy, but when he does chirp, its
loud and very demanding, sounding almost like a tennis shoe against a gym
floor. In the mornings, if I don't wake up when he crawls out of his little
fuzzy tent, then he will chirp loudly at five-second intervals until I wake
up. As soon as I'm up and getting ready, I put on some music with a good beat
and we dance together, it always puts me in an awesome mood right before
heading off to school or an early Guard practice.
He's always on my shoulder. When we watch t.v. together or I'm on the
computer, he will preen and nuzzle into my hair, sometimes getting so tangled
up that we have to work together (he and I) to get him untangled. He
absolutely adores to be scratched on his head, his favorite being right over
his little ear holes, he will often demand that I pet him by running to my
had, huddling down and fluffing up his feathers. He likes to play fetch, too,
although its not the traditional form of fetching. You see, he has this
little cat bell/ball thing that he loves to throw. I'm the one that usually
fetches, but that's okay. I love my little guy!
I got him about a year ago for Christmas from someone who didn't have any
time for him (and another little bird, a white cockatiel) anymore. Before
he'd come to me he'd been actually talking (saying little things like Hello
and Goodnight) but, sadly he hasn't said a word since the little white
cockatiel died. But, he's happy, healthy and content now, and that's all I
can truly hope for. Besides, he now has other little friends that he kind
sorta (does not really) like and is beginning to be a little more verbal
(though not actual words yet!).
