Maruchan
is a 2.5 month old, "blue" Holland Lop born and raised in Columbus,
Ohio. She weighs about two pounds now and will only get up to be about three
pounds full grown.
I'd been on my own for over two years and was tired of being a family of one,
so I decided to adopt a pet. I'd decided on a rabbit about a year ago when I
looked up what the brand name of ramen noodles, Maruchan, meant in Japanese.
It basically translates to "dear round one." I thought it was a perfect name
for a rabbit and decided when I moved to a pet friendly apartment I'd get
one. My life is a whirlwind of rentals and traveling, so i thought a small
rabbit would be perfect.
I couldn't have picked a better family member and travel companion. I
obsessively read articles on rabbit care before bringing her home like a
frantic mother-to-be awaiting a new addition. I was expecting a shy little
creature who wouldn't want to be picked up or pet and would take a long time
to get used to me. But she loves to be carried, had no problem with her new
home, and we snuggle at least once a day!
She's great to travel with, too. She is nice and quiet in her carrier with a
towel and frozen water bottle (rabbits can't be allowed to overheat!) We've
taken the city bus and national buses in secret, she doesn't seem to mind
long journeys, although she gets antsy after a few hours, poker her head out
of the bag, nearly blowing our cover ha ha! She's always glad to be let out
on her leash and harness when we reach our destination.
Maruchan loves hay, licking my face, and cuddling. Adopting her was the best
decision I've ever made. I'm so happy to be part of a family of two.
