    Stuart's hand update...

Stuart saw the hand specialist yesterday. He had some new xrays taken and it appears the bone is starting to knit. He has to keep the pin in for three more weeks at least. But it looks like he will be able to keep his ring finger entirely.

He's still a whole lot of pain. There may be some tendon damage, but it's hard to tell at this point. He'll be doing some physiotherapy when the pin is removed. The specialist said he did some nerve damage, but it may not be permanent. He doesn't have normal sensation in the other fingers. Two of them are almost completely numb and his ring finger just hurts from top to bottom! The nerve damage will take up to a year to heal.

And today he finally got a follow-up app't with a neurosurgeon (about his back). He has to fly to Vancouver at the end of the month for that one. No neurosurgeons come to the Yukon.

Thanks for all your well wishes everyone. It is much appreciated.

Glacier...I'm in Vancouver. With some advance notice I might be able to get a day off and pick him up at the airport and be a chauffeur. If you think I can help, PM me and I'll send you my contact information.

I'm glad it's good news and hope he's feeling better soon. As for possible nerve/tendon damage, my roomate sliced her finger all the way to the bone at work and had fairly severe nerve/tendon, it took her about a year but she did get feeling back in her finger.

It's so weird how you never think of your fingers being connected, just individual joints. When my mom damaged her pinky, it affected her ring and middle finger. Digit injuries are especially painful. Poor Stuart. I hope he's getting some pain relief. My mom had to have a lot of hand physical therapy.
Yikes! Good luck with his back. He has my sympathy and compassion as I'm still recuperating from spine surgery from June. It takes over a year they say. Regardless, it sure is a lot better now than it was so I have no regrets. Back problems suck, they interfere with everything you do and it's hard not to think about anything else. I hope it's not serious enough for surgery. Good luck Stuart, I'll be thinking about you.

Good news about Stuart's hand. JoJoe almost cut off his thumb last year and it's still numb, they say it takes a long time for the nerves to grow new pathways around the injured site. Hope the major pain lessens up, poor guy. We'll just keep praying for Stuart's health
