Pacer has lived here since November 2003. He staged an escape within 7 hours of his arrival--he can turn doorknobs!!! He was loose for three days. He was so timid at the time that no one could catch him. He eventually got hungry enough that he allowed himself to be lured through the gate for some stinky food. I've never intentionally let him loose as I was never sure he would let me recapture him.
But Pacer has come along way. He's not nearly as timid anymore and is a total momma's boy. Unfortunately, he's had a rough month. He's been beat up twice by the other dogs and has several wounds that needed staples. Pacer is an easy target when one of the others is cranky. He doesn't fight back and is at the bottom of the pack order. So he's been a house dog while he recovers and has decided he will be staying a house dog now, thank you very much. Now when he's outside he follows me around like a he was a lab or some other obedient breed! Yesterday he followed me and Sleet right to the gate. The following are pictures of Pacer's first off-leash walk!
Woo Hoo, no leash!!
Chasing Sleet. He could easily catch and pass Sleet. She's become very slow lately and Pacer is a speed demon, but he followed Sleet whenever he felt a little insecure. She knows the trail like the back of her paw!
Yup, he comes when called. Again, he was like a lab!!
Good dogs get lots of treats!
Few more coming...
