Free programs to make siggies?

I was just wondering if there are any free programs or free trials for siggy making.

I'd love to try to make my own but I have limited time, limited comp. access & I'm not too comp. savy so I'd really like to try it before I buy a program.

I have used GIMP and it is not an easy programme. My husband loves it but it took him awhile to figure everything out. If you can find a users guide for this programme it would be great because the programme is amazing.
