    Grapes?

I heard that grapes are really bad for dogs.... is it true? Has anyone else heard of it? What else is really bad for dogs?

Thanks For my Beautiful Sig. Fiachra!

I've also heard that grapes are bad. Here's a quote from this site...

[According to recent research, including a soon to be published study from the ASCPA Animal Poison Control Center in Urbana, IL, grapes and raisin are toxic to dogs. "We've documented that eating grapes and/or raisins can cause renal failure in dogs," says the veterinary toxicologist Dr. Steve Hansen, who is the executive director of the Animal Poison Control Center. "What we don't know is why. It might be a pesticide, or maybe a mold that occurs (on the skins of grapes and raisins)."]

Here's a forum/thread that list some foods not safe for dogs.

I believe they are okay in small amounts, as my uncle's dog loooooooved grapes. She was a farm dog, a Border Collie who could leap 5 feet into the air for a grape!

Yes, Chilli's vet told my mom grapes and raisins are bad for dogs. Chilli got crystals because of that. I don't think grapes are MUST-HAVES for dogs. For the peace of my mind, I will not give any grapes to them. And when Gigi is home, sorry sweetie, no grapes for you.

    Onions are also bad.

When I was little, I would feed my Lab grapes sometimes because I didn't know any better. I only gave her a couple at a time and nothing ever happened. I would imagine different dogs would react differently to it though. Sort of like with chocolate - it takes different amounts to become toxic to different dogs (depending largely on size, but also other things).

To be on the safe side, I wouldn't feed any grapes at all.

Thanks for everyone's advice, Barkley loves grapes, but I don't give them to him anymore and Daisy just spits them out, she hates them

I learned about this here at Pet Talk maybe a year or so ago. Before that we occasionally would share a few grapes with our dogs too. My husband has this saying about dogs who are all bravado which is *You can't bust a grape*, which really doesn't have anything to do with this except I used to think of that when I gave them a grape...and yes, they could bust one.
