Very sad. Hopefully Canada's strength in other areas (the World Factbook lists lots of industrial stuff (motor vehicles and parts, industrial machinery, aircraft, telecommunications equipment; chemicals, plastics, wood pulp, timber, crude petroleum, natural gas, electricity, aluminum) that has nothing to do with the cattle industry) will help make up for the resulting loss of revenue from both SARS and Mad Cow disease.

Hopefully it will be contained to the one case, and all the other cattle in all of North America will be safe.

I hope it is just one case, not an epidemic starting. I still remember Carrie's accounts of the horrible devastation.

this is devastating news for Canada, i feel very much for you guys, i know if it ever happened in our little country nz, we would probably be ruined, lets hope they can keep it isolated, that and foot and mouth disease are very scarey indeed.

This has been a horrible time for Canada! Between the war backlash, SARS, the lumber disputes, and now mad cow.

From SARS alone, up to 2 Billion was lost and our manufacturing sector never fully recovered from 9/11. Now with the higher Canadian dollar, who knows how our exports will fair.

    Ick!
