    My Cat Rescued ME

When I first got Cameo, for a couple days, I had to adjust to her "cat" life. Being a divorced woman, I hadn't had anyone in the same house with me for about 2 years. Cameo was insistent on being right next to me at all times. At first, this made me a little uncomfortable. I was shocked at my own reaction. It was then I realized that I was trying to shut things out of my life to protect my heart. I really had no clue I was doing this! But with her loving ways, she taught me to open my heart and love again. One thing that is so shocking about her is that she can sense when I am in a bad mood or when I am upset about something because she starts putting on her own little "feline comedy show". She'll start running around the house and jumping. Then she'll get items from around the house that is strange to see a cat play with, such as my clothes and credit cards and throw them herself and run and catch them! I also had to buy a harness and leash for her because I take her with me when I travel. She likes to pack it around the house in her mouth like a dog! She always sleeps next to me at night and she is always waiting by the door for me when I get home. Another strange thing about her is that I recently decided to get a couple of hamsters. She is scared to death of them! She won't go near them. And when one got loose out of its cage the other day, instead of chasing after it, she ran and hid. She is also very very jealous of the hamsters, trying to let them loose any time I turn my back (she was the culprit who made the one get loose by turning over his cage). Everyone that meets her falls madly in love with her and I have already had several offers from people wanting to take her if I ever want to get rid of her. I always smile, look at my Cameo, and say "She is my guardian angel. I can't let her go." This cat has saved my sanity. I am going to make sure that she has a long healthy life and lives like a queen!

Cameo is a treasure both for her looks and her love! Congratulations on finding such a loving companion!

Our pets certainly can give us insight into our own mental health. For me, I realized something was wrong when I found myself weeping as I went to work each day - worried about my cats. Now, feeling concerned about their safety and welfare while I was gone from the house was fine, but there was no reason to cry! I knew I needed to get my life back in order so that I could better look after my cats and myself. So I got some help!

Years later, I look back and see that the love and companionship of my kitties helped me learn many things about myself - and helped me battle clinical depression and win!

Cameo is such a beautiful girl. It's amazing the things that a cat will do for a person. You are both very lucky to have each others love and that special bond.

Some of you have read this before, so please bear with me.

In the year 99-2000, within 8 months, I saw Smokey the Elder and my Dad off to the RB, my SO rolled the van, and I had a very bad boss at work that ended up firing me from a job I'd had for 11 years. Not a week after I lost my job Diamond started coming around.,

I'd seen her; she was mother to a multitude of black cats. She was also, or so I had thought, intractably feral. She had other ideas. I'd be workng on my garden and she'd keep rubbing up against me. When I realized she was preggers I brought her inside, and she had her kittens, including Smokey the YOunger. I think my Dad and Smokey the Elder sent Diamond (and kittens) to me.

Ultimately, I joined a cat rescue group to place Diamond's kittens. I found out that I can socialize difficult cats and kittens, and basically take on one "project" at a time.

Here's Diamond helping me stuff envelopes for a penny social. She has turned into such a mush pie and always has to "help" me with stuff.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful story. I did visit Cameo's album and enjoyed her pictures. She is a real beauty and I am glad that you have her to love, comfort, and amuse you and that she has found a happy home with you. I am sure she will adjust to the hamsters soon.

Smokey the elder, I hadn't known your story so thank you for posting it.
